2021 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl – Kent St vs Wyoming

posted December 18

The Game

It’s Potato Bowl time, yo.

This bad boy features an interesting contrast in styles as it pits the FLASHFAST offense and the grinding machine that is the Wyoming Cowboys. Kent St rolls into Boise with a mark of 7-6 and are off a blowout loss to Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship Game. Wyoming has had their ups and downs and would like to finish the season with a winning record. They sit at 6-6 and their 4-0 start feels like a distant memory.

Let’s do ittttttttt !

The Details

Wyoming -3 Kent St (59)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Wyoming -5

MEGALOCKS Market Consensus – Wyoming -4.1

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Wyoming 31 Kent St 28

Wyoming offense vs Kent St defense

The Pokes’ strategy will no doubt be to smash the Kent St defense with their powerful rushing attack (#30 FBS) as the Flashes are #106 in the country in defending the run. QB Levi Williams has been pretty good since taking over the starting role and has good mobility. That’ll complement the 1-2 punch of X Valladay and T Swen at RB and note that they’ve rushed for over 1700 yards and 12 TDs. They don’t have much of a THROW GAME outside of WR I Neyor who’s an emerging star (791, 11 TD, 20.3). Kent St hasn’t been as good vs the pass as LY but lead the MAC in INTs (16). Wyoming does a fine job of avoiding negative plays and Kent St has PENETRATION ISSUES (#9 MAC sacks, #7 TFL/game). Fun fact – Wyoming dominated on the ground in three of their last five games. 385 yards vs Colorado St, 362 yards vs Utah St, 271 vs San Jose St.

Kent St offense vs Wyoming defense

FLASHFAST hasn’t been as deadly as LY but they still boast the #8 total offense in the country and a rushing attack that clocks in at #4 (243 YPG). QB D Crum has been fun to watch at Kent St and is one of the stars of the MAC (2922, 64%, 16-6 TD to INT, 633 rush 11 TDs). He’s a great leader and a very tough runner. RBs M Cooper and X Williams have combined for 1892 rush yds and the Wyoming run D has definitely had trouble from time to time stopping the run (#92 run D, 169 YPG). Crum has been inconsistent MATRICULATING the ball down the field with the THROW GAME and note that Wyoming is pretty stout vs the pass (#22 FBS pass eff D). Kent’s pass blocking has been WAYYYY worse than LY (36 sacks allowed, 5 in 4G during 2020 scamdemic season). The good news? Wyoming doesn’t have much of a pass rush and are ranked last in the MW in TFL/game. Kent St looked pretty average vs a horrible Huskies D in the MAC title game and will have to be a lot better in this game if they wanna pull the minor upset.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

Kent St doesn’t make too many bowl appearances (1-2 all-time) but the last time we saw them in a bowl game they took down Utah St 51-41 in the 2019 Frisco Bowl……That was a 8008 STAR MEGALOCKS I HOPE YOU DIE IN A BLIMP ACCIDENT STEAM PLAY loser…….Wyoming is 8-8 in bowl action and HC C Bohl is 2-1…..Wyoming QB L Williams doesn’t have a ton of experience but don’t forget that he led the Cowboys to a 38-17 win over Georgia St in the 2019 Arizona Bowl…..That was a 90000 STAR MEGALOCKS FREE CASH GIVEAWAY LOCK…….Weather forecast looks decent as we approach press time……Cold and clear, no wind.

Summary

We’ll roll with the more physical team with the better defense playing close to home. The price looks pretty fair to us.
