The Game
Don’t think about hitting the sack early as we’ve got a fine brand-name match-up to check out in the Alamo Bowl on Thursday night! Washington won their final six (!) regular season games but couldn’t find a way to weasel into the PAC 12 Championship Game despite boasting a record of 10-2. Texas also missed their conference title game by a slim margin and finished 3rd in the Big 12 (8-4, 5-3). Don’t forget that these doods almost took down ROLL TIDE early in the campaign (L 20-19).

Texas offense vs Washington defense
The Longhorns rank #27 in the nation (200 YPG) in rushing offense thanks in large part to the work of star RB B Robinson (1,580, 6.1, 18 TD, 19 receptions, 314 yards, 2 TD) but he’s opted to quit, as has back-up RB R Johnson. That means that Texas will be operating with a very inexperienced backfield leaving QB Q Ewers to do more of the work via the THROW GAME. Ewers has shown some nice flashes but has booked pedestrian numbers overall in his first year as the starter (57%, 14-6 TD to INT). Washington has been very solid vs the run (127 YPG, #35 FBS) but horrible vs the pass (25-7 TD to INT, #114 FBS pass efficiency D) so we expect Ewers to have have a good time in this game.
Washington offense vs Texas defense
The Huskies have been ripping teams apart with their #1 ranked passing offense and QB M Penix has been fantastic (66%, 29-7 TD to INT, 8.7 YPC), and note that he’s only been sacked 5 (!) times all year (team, 6). Penix has a LASER ROCKET ARM and he gets the ball out quick to his devastating WR group that features a PAIR of 1,000-yard men (Odunze, McMillan). They don’t do much on the ground but #1 RB W Taulapapa has booked 779 rushing yards whilst averaging 6.2 YPC (10 TD). Texas brings the #2 defense in the Big 12 (YPP, total yards) to the table but they’ll be without stud LB D Overshown who’s also packed it in for the year. Texas is mid-pack in the Big 12 in terms of pass efficiency defense so we also expect Penix to GIT ER DONE.
Trends, Intangibles and More!
Washington hasn’t participated in bowl season since 2019 and this will be first year HC Kalen Deboer’s first bowl game as a HC….Texas has won four consecutive bowl games dating back to the 2017 Texas Bowl when they took down MIZZOURAHH by a score of 33-16…..MEGALOCKS GEOGRAPHY INTERNS note that this game is taking place in TEXAS which gives the Longhorns a theoretical small home field edge.
Summary
We’ll roll with the team that should be more motivated, and the one that has their roster mostly intact.
