2022 Arizona Bowl – Ohio vs Wyoming

posted December 29

The Game

The good folks at BARSTOOL SPORTS bring us the Arizona Bowl on Friday and we’ve got a match-up of overachieving teams ready to do battle in the desert! Ohio got on a major HEEETER in the 2nd half of the season and won the MAC East, a fine result for MEGALOCKS FUTURES CLUB members. This is a Bobcats program that won just three games in 2021. Wyoming had one of the weaker rosters in the Mountain West on paper heading into 2022 but they managed to cobble together seven wins in the competitive Mountain West conference.

The Details

Ohio -1.5 Wyoming (41.5)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Ohio -3

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Ohio 21.5 Wyoming 20

Ohio offense vs Wyoming defense

The Bobcats were LIGHTING IT UP under star QB K Rourke (#17 FBS passing offense) until he was injured late in the regular season and they’ve become much more of a conservative offense under back-up QB CJ Harris. They’ll try and get the ground game going behind RB S Bangura who’s a great bet to hit the 1,000-yard mark by the end of this BAD BOY (940, 4.8, 12 TD). Wyoming has been MEH vs the run (150 YPG, #69 FBS) and we believe that the Bobcats will have success on the ground. Ohio might be able to have a decent amount of success thru the air as Harris has booked some quality practice time and they’ve got an underrated group of WRs. Wyoming’s defense is mostly intact for this game but they’ll be missing a starting DE as well as a starting CB.

Wyoming offense vs Ohio defense

This bowl season never ceases to amaze! Between transfers and injuries the Pokes will be without their top-FOUR RBs. Yup, that’s awesome. Wyoming is one of the most run heavy teams in the country so it’ll be interesting how well the ground attack works vs a scrappy Ohio run defense that really played well in the 2nd half of the year (#3 run D in MACtion games). Wyoming has no ability to do damage thru the air (10-11 TD to INT) and QB A Peasley hasn’t thrown a TD pass since October 8th (!). It’s hard to see Wyoming doing much on offense.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

Wyoming HC Craig Bohl is 3-1 in bowl action and the Cowboys have won their last three bowl events by a combined score of 127-69…..The Bobcats haven’t played in a bowl game since 2019 when they defeated Nevada in the Potato Bowl (W 30-21) behind legendary HC Frank Solich…..Ohio has tackled the #108 schedule according to Sagarin…..Wyoming #86.

Summary

If you’re looking for a SNOT BUBBLER you’ve come to the right place. It’s hard to see many points being scored in this tilt but it’s never easy going ‘under’ a total this low in bowl action. Our favorite total-related play is the Wyoming TT under (20 implied) but we slightly prefer banking on Ohio to find a way to win the game vs a depleted Wyoming squad.
