2022 Guaranteed Rate Bowl – Oklahoma St vs Wisconsin

posted December 9

The Game

Get ready for some late night bowl action in the ENCHANTED LAND OF STOLEN ELECTIONS as Wisconsin and Oklahoma St do battle at Chase Field. Both teams were a major disappointment this season and note that the Badgers recently hired former Cincinnati Bearcats boss Luke Fickell to be their HC in 2023. The Pokes still have Mike Gundy at the controls and you can never underestimate his ability to get the team ready.

The Details

Wisconsin -3 Oklahoma St (43)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Wisconsin -2.5

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Wisconsin 23 Oklahoma St 20

Wisconsin offense vs Oklahoma St defense

The Badgers did the majority of their work on the ground as per usual this season but they averaged less than 200 YPG for the 2nd time in three seasons (173, #53 FBS). They’ll probably try to do major damage with the rushing attack in this one given the departure of QB G Mertz via the transfer portal. He was an erratic dood but was responsible for 286 of the Badgers 300 passing attempts. The SHARP MONEY has back-up Myles Burkett getting the start but we don’t know for sure as of yet. Two of their top-three RBs are good to go (as far as we know right now) including 1,000-yard rusher B Allen but Wisconsin lost a few guys on the OL including starting center (!) J Tippmann who recently declared for the NFL draft and he’ll almost certainly be skipping this game. The WR unit is actually better than you’d think but who will get them the ball? Oklahoma St’s defense was trash this year (#116 FBS) and will be missing some key players including #1 tackler LB M Cobb. Wisconsin was pretty gross all year on offense but at least they get to face a bad defense.

Oklahoma St offense vs Wisconsin defense

It’s gonna be strange to see the Cowboys take the field without star QB S Sanders but here we are. He was banged up most of the season and hit the transfer portal. It’s unclear who’ll get the start at QB in the bowl game but rest assured it’ll be a major downgrade. That being said, HC Mike Gundy has worked magic SEVERAL TIMES at the QB position and they’ll have lots of practice time. #1 RB D Richardson has also left the nest and a weak ground game (#93 FBS) will have to find a warm body or two to carry the load. The WR group is very talented but they don’t have a legit #1 star. The closest thing may be B Johnson who tallied 169 receiving yards L2G. Wisconsin ranks #12 in the country in run D and #49 in pass efficiency D but they’ll be missing a pair of key contributors at CB and we wouldn’t be surprised (just a guess, yo) to see their two best players in the stop unit (LB N Herbig, DT K Benton) skip the bowl game. If you see the line go FREAKY FREAKY and drop a bit at some point that’s probably why.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

Mike Gundy is an ALL-TIMER when it comes to making money for DEGENERATE NATION and that includes an 11-5 ATS mark in bowl games……Interim HC J Leonhard will coach this game for Wisconsin…..Luke Fickell and the new staff may poke around here and there…….Wisconsin’s best wins were over Purdue (H) and Maryland (H)…..They also beat CORN (A) and three complete ABOMINATIONS……Oklahoma St played the tougher schedule and beat Baylor (A), Texas Tech (H), and Texas (H)……They dropped 4L5G thanks in large part to injuries and scored just 0,16,20,13,19 L5G…….Oklahoma St PK Tanner Brown is 21/22 on FG attempts and 40/40 on XP…….Oklahoma St ranks #6 in penalty yards per game (good) and Wisconsin is #101 (bad).

Summary

Many are calling this the TP BOWL. Transfer portal. Toilet paper. Make up your own name! It’s fun for the entire family. We’re gonna pass on this game for now given that both teams are in a state of significant upheaval. As gross as the game looks on paper we’ll still be watching. Wagering preference will likely be some kind of ‘under’ and trying to find value via SWEET IN-GAME ACTION.

Conclusion

No leanage.
