2022 LA Bowl – Fresno St vs Washington St

posted December 14

The Game

It’s always a great time when one of America’s CROWN JEWELS, the dump that is Los Angeles, is able to host a college football bowl game whilst showing off the land of corruption, pedophilia, and rivers of human sewage. Yes, and it’s only appropriate that Hollywood is involved, and what better spokesperson for all of the above than your boy Jimmy Kimmel? The good news is that the game features the Mountain West champs from Fresno St who come in red hot having won eight (!) consecutive games. Washington St has made a bowl game for the 2nd straight season and would love to get the bad taste out of their collective mouths after losing to Central Michigan (!) in last year’s Sun Bowl.

The Details

Fresno St offense vs Washington St defense

It’s no secret that the Bulldogs’ offense has started to hum after the return of star QB J Haener (73%, 18-3 TD to INT) and it appears as tho he’ll have close to his full complement of WR weapons at his disposal for this game including #1 Jalen Moreno-Cropper (1,051, 5 TD) and the uncoverable N Remigio who also likes to return punts for TDs in his spare time. And don’t sleep on a rushing attack that features a 1,000-yard RB in Jordan Mims (1,161, 16 TD). Washington St has been pretty stingy on defense this season but they fell apart vs Washington in their season finale and note that their entire starting LB corps has quit including NFL-bound D Henley. The Cougars finished the regular season ranked #73 in pass efficiency D and #113 in passing yards allowed.

Washington St offense vs Fresno St defense

Washington St didn’t do much on the ground during the regular season (#113 FBS rushing offense) but they were decent in terms of the THROW GAME (#35) behind the arm of QB C Ward (23-8 TD to INT). There’s reason for worry tho as Ward has been sacked 40 (!) times and he’ll be without a yuuuge chunk of his WR group (three of top FOUR targets) in this one. Fresno St plays rock solid pass D (#10 FBS pass eff D, 14-11 TD to INT, 52%) and should be able to do a good job overall vs the Cougars offense.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

Washington St will be without their OC and DC who’ve left for other jobs….Fresno St HC Jeff Tedford is 7-3 in bowl games…..Fresno St has played the #100 schedule according to Sagarin…..Wash St #24.

Summary

We lean to the Bulldogs in this one as they’re playing their best football and come into this bowl game with their roster essentially intact. And Mountain West teams are always up to spanking PAC 12 teams like RED-HEADED STEPCHILDREN when they get the chance.

Conclusion

Lean – Fresno St -3.5
