2022 Las Vegas Bowl – Florida vs Oregon St

posted December 10

The Game

We’ve got a PAC 12 vs SEC match-up in Las Vegas as the Florida Gators come to town to take on the EMERGING JUGGERNAUT that is the Oregon St Beavers. Florida had a disappointing regular season finishing up at 6-6 and they were a very mediocre 3-5 in SEC action. Oregon St is one of the most underrated teams in the country and they’re fresh off a yuuuge comeback win over Oregon in the Civil War. Can they book their 10th win of the season in SIN CITY?

The Details

Oregon St -10.5 Florida (52.5)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Oregon St -8.5

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Oregon St 31.5 Florida 21

Oregon St offense vs Florida defense

The Beavers have done a good job of being balanced on offense this season (199 YPG rush, 200 pass) but it’s the rushing attack that does the serious damage and allows them to wear down opponents (33 rush TDs, #23 FBS time of possession). RB Damien Martinez has been an excellent find and he comes into the Las Vegas Bowl with a streak of six (!) consecutive 100-yard games. QB B Gulbranson has been ok since taking over the starting gig (62%, 8-5 TD to INT) but he definitely needs the ground game to be rolling in order to be most effective. The good news is that the Gators defense is pretty disgusting, particularly vs the run (#11 SEC run D, #101 FBS). Florida also has a tough time getting off the field on 3rd downs (#127 FBS, 49%).

Florida offense vs Oregon St defense

Star QB A Richardson didn’t live up to lofty expectations this year (54%, 17-9 TD to INT, 9 rush TD) but he was one of the most talented players in the nation. Sadly for college football fans, he’s decided to skip the bowl game and enter the NFL draft. That leaves a GAPING WOUND at the QB position and note that back-up QB J Kitna is no longer with the team after being arrested #SolidLifeChoice. Former Ohio St Buckeye Jack Miller will get his first start for the Gators. As far as we know the Gators will be playing with their devastating RB combo of M Johnson and T Etienne (1532, 16 TDs combined) but it looks as tho they’ll be down several players at the WR position. Oregon St has a very stingy defense (#20 run, #12 pass efficiency D) and it’ll be interesting to see how much offense the Gators can generate in this one. The good news is that they’ve shown they can run on just about anyone.

Trends, Intangibles, and More!

Florida HC Billy Napier was 2-1 SU in bowl games with the Cajuns….0-3 ATS…..Oregon St HC Jonathan Smith has only coached in one bowl game and that was last season’s LA JIMMY KIMMEL DOUCHEBAG BOWL in which the Beavers lost to Utah St as 7-point favs…..Florida played the #11 schedule according to Sagarin……Oregon St #29…..For those heading down to the game, let us know if Kiki is still dealing craps at the Barbary Coast.

Summary

It’s tough to make a case for the underdog in this one but it’s often tricky to lay double-digits in an early bowl game. Florida will have the element of surprise at QB as who knows what they’ll get from your boy Jack Miller? Oregon St shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball and will be adequately motivated to get that 10th win. The price just looks a bit steep. Nothing pre-flop for now and we’ll hope for Florida to start well and then potentially take Oregon St LIVE at a discounted fare.
