It’s another edition of the battle for the CY-HAWK trophy. A lot of hatred to go around. We are just glad to be a part of it. The Cyclones come into this game off a 42-24 win over a feisty Northern Iowa squad and look to put up a better performance than last year’s 41-3 effort in Iowa City. Meanwhile the Hawkeyes DELIVERED THE GOODS vs Wyoming winning 24-3 and giving dedicated MEGALOCKS PLATINUM SUPER LOCK MAX UNIT BANGER CLUB members a nice win to start the Saturday card. What is gonna go down this week ? Let’s dig in.

The Match-Up
Iowa offense vs Iowa St defense
It wasn’t pretty but Iowa got the job done last week. We are hopeful that the key players on offense refrain from taking a bath in bacon grease before the game this week. Fumbles are not cool. Iowa controlled the game with their defense and were patient with the running game vs Wyoming. QB Nathan Stanley was only 8-15 and will probably have to MATRICULATE a bit more down the field in the passing game in this one. Only three Hawkeyes caught passes last week.
It’s hard to gauge how the Cyclones will fare this week based on their week one performance. We do know that they bagged a PAIR of pick-6 TDs so Iowa better be extra careful to not giveaway the game with turnovers. Iowa St was pretty weak vs the run last season (218 yards per game allowed) and will be in tough vs the Iowa offensive line.
Iowa St offense vs Iowa defense
There is no question that Iowa St brings more to the table on offense. QB Jacob Park is coming off a 271 yard passing effort and RB David Montgomery and WR Allen Lazard are legit #1s. They are going to be in tough vs the Iowa defense but definitely have more potential to hit some big plays. Iowa smothered the Wyoming run game (as our Big 10 RUN GAME INSIDERS predicted) and made Wyoming one dimensional. That is definitely a risk in this game as well for Iowa St. We think Iowa St is good enough on offense to win this game as long as their defense is not a complete disaster.

Summary
This is not as easy of a game to predict as it first appears. You KNOW we like Iowa this season – but it is early – and the Cyclones have defeated Iowa twice in the past five meetings despite being a pile of crap for most of that time. We are a believer in HC Matt Campbell so do not want to sell this team short. Cyclones are going to SHOCK the WORLD at least once this season.
Conclusion
No official play as of yet. We lean to Iowa at any number less than 3. We also would take a small taste of the under at 48. Would not go lower than 47.
