LSU at Ole Miss – College Football Predictions

The Game

And just like that, the LSU Tigers are back. Sort of.

It look a yuuuuuge comeback (down 20-0) but LSU got the win vs Auburn and now sit at 5-2. The schedule is pretty favorable, and like we said last week, don’t laugh if they head into the ROLL TIDE match-up with a shot to SHOCK the college football world. First things first. They need to dispose of an Ole Miss team that just finished ripping Vanderbilt to shreds. It’s an underrated rivalry game. Let’s goooooooo !

The Details

LSU -6.5 OLE MISS (55.5)

MEGALOCKS LINE – LSU -8

Sagarin Ratings – LSU -7

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: LSU 31 Ole Miss 24.5

Massey Ratings Projected Score: LSU 34 Ole Miss 31

The Match-Up

LSU offense vs Ole Miss defense

It’s not flashy but it works well enough. The 1-2 RB combo of D Guice and D Williams have combined for over 800 yards and 10 TDs whilst QB D Etling has only thrown 1 INT in 142 attempts while completing 59% of his passes. WR DJ Chark is averaging an impossible 24 yards per catch. ESPN may tell you they stink but the numbers say they are not that bad (#6 SEC yards per play; #40 FBS rushing offense). They should be able to do whatever they need to do vs an Ole Miss defense that is ranked 2nd last in the SEC in yards per play allowed and #108 (!) overall in the FBS. We look for LSU to get into the high 20s at a minimum.

Ole Miss offense vs LSU defense

We give Ole Miss a lot of credit for dealing with the BOWL BAN and HOOKER FIASCO this season. They are 3-3 and have one of the best QBs in the SEC in Shea Patterson who has already tossed 17 (!) TD passes in 2017. The running game came alive last week vs Vandy (252), but then again, who can’t run on the Commodores this season ? We worry about Ole Miss being one dimensional and throwing into an LSU pass defense that leads the SEC in fewest TD passes allowed (5). They were fantastic last week vs Auburn and have also played a few other decent QBs (Miss St, Syracuse). LSU is #2 in the SEC in sacks per game and we just not like this match-up for the Rebels.

MEGA-MAZING MINUTIA

The road team has lost five straight in the series……TREND GUY may drop 900 imaginary Twitter units on the Rebels.

Summary

Before you get upset and throw yourself in front of a train because LSU is ranked #24 this week remember this….1) the Top 25 poll is propaganda 2) we have LSU rated T25 in terms of a “power rating” and the Sagarin ratings have them at #25. So even if you want to protest and set fire to random buildings let’s just agree they are top #30-35. Ole Miss is not.

Conclusion

Strong lean LSU -6.5. Will monitor during the week.
