The Game

Your undefeated Miami Hurricanes look to make it a 4-0 start when they visit Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon. Miami beat up on a couple of softies to start the season and then ripped apart Appalachian St on the road, while at the same time, kicking CROWD WILL BE ROCKING GUY to the curb. Georgia Tech is 3-1 after losing last Thursday night to the Clemson Tigers.

The Match-Up

Miami offense vs Georgia Tech defense

The Hurricanes have really looked sharp. The schedule has not been difficult but they do get full marks for their performance against Appalachian St. QB Brad Kaaya played a lot better in week three than he did in week two and now finally has a legitimate offense and OL. The running game is in great shape with Joseph Yearby and Mark Walton each averaging over 7 yards per carry. They have nice balance in the passing game with a number of good WRs and a fine TE in David Njoku.

The Yellow Jackets have played some good defense this season. They hung in there vs Clemson, and overall, have only allowed more than 14 points once this season. Yes, the Miami attack is potent, but Georgia Tech should be able to keep them from going nuts if they play the way they did against Clemson.

Georgia Tech offense vs Miami defense

The Yellow Jackets have recorded less than 300 yards total offense in three of their four games so far this season. They were only able to get things going against Mercer. There is an argument to be made that the offense has just been facing good defenses, but it does not get much easier this week as the Hurricanes feature the #2 defense in FBS (yes, very early). They are very disruptive. They are probably going to get burned a lot more often than Clemson but it is hard to imagine the Yellow Jackets consistently moving the ball. They have not managed to hit much at all in the passing game, and until the ground attack shows more promise, it is going to be tough and slow sledding for the Yellow Jackets.

MEGA Mini-Bites

Georgia Tech is 2-10-1 ATS L13 games….Miami has won 6 of the last 7 meetings but did lose the last time they were here in 2014….Miami and Mark Richt are both used to seeing the Ga Tech option so they should be well prepared. The Hurricanes have Florida St on deck…..hmmmmm.

Summary

Miami is playing great football right now. However, they are still untested, and it remains to be seen how they react to playing as a TD fav in a road conference game. The match-up looks very similar to the Clemson game but the Hurricanes are less experienced and talented than the Clemson stop unit. This feels like a double digit win but do not want to lay this much lumber.
