Army at Buffalo – College Football Predictions

The Game

Yes, guy.

We love us some service academy football and Army almost SHOCKED the WORLD at Oklahoma last week losing in overtime. MEGALOCKS NATION was thrilled with the 78,003 STAR UNDERDOG LASER LOCK play of the DECADE but a straight-up win would have been epic. It’s just a bit of a change in venue going from Norman to Buffalo. Can Army give the UNDEFEATED Bulls a game?

The Details

Buffalo -9 Army (51.5)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Buffalo -6.5

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Buffalo 30.25 Army 21.25

The Match-Up:

Buffalo offense vs Army defense

The Bulls offense has been really good this season and it all starts with their excellent signal caller Tyree Jackson who is completing 62% of his passes whilst sporting a fine 15-3 TD to INT ratio. The WR duo of KJ Osborn and Anthony Johnson is outstanding and they have lit up opposing secondaries to the tune of 600+ yards and 8 (!) TDs so far in 2018. The running back group is deep. And amaze your INHUMANE DENTAL HYGIENIST with this gem. Buffalo has not allowed a single sack all season. They will be tested this week against an Army stop unit that has faced the offenses of Hawaii, Oklahoma, Liberty and Duke so far. It helps that their D gets a lot of rest (more on that below). Buffalo will have to make the most of their opportunities to get to their team total in this one.

Army offense vs Buffalo defense

Check this out, yo. Army is averaging 41 minutes (!) per game in time of possession. <laughs> <falls off chair> The Bulls’ run defense has not been tested and it remains to be seen if they are up to getting the Army off the field. They can’t take too many chances because Army is averaging an insane 21.9 yards per completion. They have the ability to take the top off the defense once or twice a half if you fall asleep at the wheel. Buffalo has some excellent talent on defense including LB Khalil Hodge but it still seems like the Black Knights are destined to hold the ball for 35+ minutes.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

The good news for Buffalo? They have faced Army two years in a row and will be familiar with defending the triple option. The good news for Army? Those two contests were both close. Army won 21-17 last year and the Bulls scored an OT victory in 2016.

Summary

We will keep pounding the drum on Army. They are good. Sure they are 2-2 but have lost to Duke and Oklahoma on the road and those two squads have a combined record of 8-0. The big question we have is the “letdown” factor. Can the Black Knights get off the mat after coming so close to beating the Sooners? Long-time MEGALOCKS readers know that you can usually throw out the letdown angle when backing service academies, but it does give us reason for pause. And Buffalo can light you up. Hmm.

Conclusion

Official play:  None yet. Still debating. May need to visit our BUFFALO INSIDERS and grab some chicken wings in the process.

Side: Lean to Army.

Total: Lean to the under.

Note:

‘Lean’ implies we are comfortable suggesting ‘small potatoes’ on the game. Nothing more. < but always stay tuned for updates >

‘Slight lean’ implies we are almost certain to avoid the game and/or total from a betting standpoint even for ‘small potatoes’. We give an opinion for those who need to get down and want advice.
