Auburn Tigers 2025 College Football Preview

2024 Recap
Record – 5-7
ATS – 5-7
“You are what your record says you are”.
<Bill Parcells>
The Tigers got off to a rough start at 2-5 with their only wins coming vs a pair of TOMATO CANS (Alabama A&M, New Mexico). Four of those losses came by ten points or less, but there’s no crying in football. Sometimes you just can’t win, yo. Auburn kept fighting and won three games down the stretch including a 4OT thriller vs Texas A&M (W 43-41), and that just happened to be a 36,000 STAR MEGALOCKS TOUT SCUMBAG LOCK OF THE MILLENNIUM OVERTIME GAME OF WEEK winner. Sadly, Auburn fell one game short of making a bowl game and it was another disappointing season on the Plains.
Auburn Tigers 2025 Outlook
OFFENSE
It seems impossible, but Auburn hasn’t averaged 30+ PPG since before the PLANDEMIC (2019). The Payton Thorne era at QB has mercifully come to a close and it will be up to highly-touted specimen Jackson Arnold (Oklahoma) to lead the offense in 2025. QB Ashton Daniels had decent some moments with Stanford and he’s an acceptable insurance policy. Both QBs have excellent mobility so the offense should be difficult to defend. Auburn is blessed with one of the best WR corps in the nation with the return of the impossibly talented Cam Coleman (598, 16.2, 8 TD) and Malcolm Simmons (451, 11.3, 3 TD), and don’t forget that they made a yuuuge addition thru the portal in acquiring the dangerous Eric Singleton (754, 3 TD; 131 rush, TD) from Georgia Tech. The loss of 1,200-yard star RB Jarquez Hunter to the NFL really stings and it’s unclear if the Tigers have a legit #1 option on board. However, we trust Hugh Freeze and company to figure out a productive RB rotation as they’ve got some good depth in the room. The offense has the potential to really hum considering the offensive line should one of the best in the SEC and the unit boasts 140 career starts.
DEFENSE
Auburn did a good job on defense LY and they were equally strong vs the run (118 YPG, #27) and the pass (#46 pass efficiency D, 56%, 12-8 TD to INT). Only one starter returns up front and the Tigers will be relying on transfers and highly-recruited youngsters to GIT-R-DONE. Keep your eye on DE Keldric Faulk who’s a devastating pass rushing threat (7 sacks, 11 TFL, 4 QBH) and sophomore NT Malik Blocton. The primary concern on defense is a LB group that loses a few key contributors including #1 tackler LB Dorian Mausi but the secondary has the potential to be one of the best in the SEC. The Tigers are absolutely loaded at CB with the return of Jay Crawford and Kayin Lee, and the addition of Miami Ohio’s Raion Strader who was one of the best CBs in the MAC LY.
SPECIAL TEAMS
We’re happy to see ace PK Alex McPherson back on the team and healthy (13/13 FG, 40/40 XP in 2023!) but the Tigers will need to find a replacement for reliable punter Oscar Chapman (41.2 net). KR Jeremiah Cobb is back in the mix (23.4) but the primary PR job is open for business.
Schedule Analysis
Overall – Auburn has three layups in non-conference play but the season opener is a DOOZY (at Baylor). There are a few soft spots on the SEC docket but the Tigers are gonna be tested right out of the gate by opening conference play with road games at Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Have fun with that. Auburn has to face Georgia and ROLL TIDE but both of those games are at home.
Potential ATS Trouble Spot – at Texas A&M (Sept 27)
Auburn will be coming off a tough road meeting with the Sooners whilst the Aggies will be home and rested off a bye week. Texas A&M will be looking to exact revenge for last season’s OT loss and note that the home team is 4-0 ATS in the L4 meetings.

MEGALOCKS says:
No leanage.
That looks about right. There’s some fine talent on both sides of the football but it’s not like Auburn has been tearing it up over the L5Y (see Tidbits below). The floor is six or seven wins and the upside is, who knows?
MEGAmazing Tidbits
Auburn has a mediocre record of 28-33 (.459) over the last five seasons and they haven’t won more than six games since 2019 (9-4).
The Tigers have lost four consecutive bowl games and those losses didn’t exactly come against the CREAM of the CROP (Maryland, Houston, Northwestern, Minnesota).
Auburn is in Lee County in the GREAT STATE of ALABAMA and the southern portion is home to the last foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Geography and geology BOMBS coming in hot, bay-bee.
MEGALOCKS Forecast:
Auburn definitely has our attention as a potential SURPRISE PACKAGE in the SEC but they’ll need QB Jackson Arnold to rise to the occasion and shake off the mental anguish of having played behind the Oklahoma offensive line in 2024. We feel strangely comfortable saying that the offense will take a step forward but the DL/LB units may not have enough game-changing talents. We’ll call for eight wins and project that they’ll get on a roll in the second half of the season once the schedule lightens up.
