2020 Recap

Record – 6-5

ATS – 6-5

The season went back and forth like a TEETER-TOTTER for the Eagles as they finished with a HO HUM mark of 6-5. They didn’t win more than two games in a row, and they didn’t suffer back-to-back losses. They came very close to SHOCKING THE WORLD in games vs UNC and Clemson and were competitive vs Notre Dame. Not bad, yo.

Boston College Eagles 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The Eagles rode the arm of QB Phil Jurkovec and put up fine numbers through the air (284 YPG, #24 FBS). That was a yuuuuuuuuuuuge improvement over previous seasons. Jurkovec will miss stud TE Hunter Long (685, 5 TD) but gets back essentially the entire starting WR corps including emerging star Zay Flowers (56-892, 15.9, 9 TD). CJ Jewis and Jaelen Gill each averaged 15+ YPC LY, and don’t sleep on Kobay White who led the team with 5 TD receptions in 2019. They couldn’t get anything going on the ground LY (102 YPG, #118 FBS, 3.1 YPC) and lose #1 RB David Bailey. It’s gonna be a committee approach this year. The OL will be really good and features 1st Team ACC center Alec Lindstrom. They’ll almost certainly top 30 PPG for the first time since 2018.

DEFENSE

Boston College was pretty average on defense LY (#8 ACC total defense) as they allowed 400+ YPG for the third consecutive season. They’ve slid quite a bit recently in terms of PPG, yardage, and sack production. Eight starters are back but the few losses are massive. The top-two tacklers and defensive STALWARTS at LB (Isaiah McDuffie, Max Richardson) both need to be replaced and that’s a big concern to our DEEP ACC INSIDERS. Nobody’s back that had more than 5.5 TFL or 2.5 sacks in 2020. Three starters return up front but they’re not an overwhelming group on paper in terms of size or ability to get PENETRATION. The only unit that needs rebuilding is the LB group (see above). All starters return on the back end and they get a sweet transfer at safety from Florida St (Jaiden Lars-Woodbey). This feels like an average (or below) secondary unless they can find some pass rushers to help them out.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Things appear to be in good shape with all of the key pieces back in 2021. PK Aaron Boumerhi was 16-20 on FGA LY (16-18 inside 50).

Schedule Analysis

Overall – It’s not too bad. They’re a mortal 700 STAR COVID FRAUD BUSTER LOCK to open 3-0 and get a good draw from the Coastal (Hokies, Jackets). They only have one road game in November.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – at Georgia Tech (November 13th)

This will be their 4th road game in just over 40 days and the Yellow Jackets will be a much-improved bunch.

MEGAmazing Tidbit

“Here we go again. Again.” <Tugg Speedman> <Tropic Thunder>

The Eagles have won either six or seven games every season from 2013-2020. The lone exception was in 2015 (3-9).

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

This is gonna be a fun team to watch. We really like Jurkovec at QB and those WRs are flat out NASTY. The defense? Hmm. It’s possible they’re gonna be mediocre. If that’s the case it’s hard to support a view of them booking more than 6-7 wins. The schedule sure helps, that’s for sure. We’ll call for a seven win season. Game on!
