College Football Week 1 in Review!

College Football Week 1 in Review

We got off to a good start! Lots of exciting games and fantastic finishes. The premier game of the week didn’t let us down. Let’s talk a bit about what transpired in week one of the college football season.

The BIG games

Auburn 27 Oregon 21

The one that got away. QUACK ATTACK built up a 21-6 lead and looked to be in control until they went ice cold on offense and allowed Auburn to get back into the game. And how about that final drive for the Tigers? Game winning TD with 9 seconds left. WOW. Full marks to Auburn for hanging in there. Freshman QB Bo Nix was inconsistent but made enough plays to get his team the W. Nix certainly didn’t appear fazed by the big stage.

Oklahoma 49 Houston 31

What a debut for newly-minted Sooners’ QB Jalen Hurts who passed for 332 yards and rushed for another 176. SIX total TDs (3 rushing, 3 passing). It was strange to see him in another uniform after spending so much time with ROLL TIDE. Very happy for a great player and teammate. Sooners D still needs some work, although playing the Cougs and their high-powered offense is not an easy first week assignment.

Florida 24 Miami 20

Lots of intensity and a close game from start to finish. New Miami QB Jarren Williams looks like an upgrade at QB. The Canes OL woes continued as they gave up 10 (!) sacks. Florida needs better QB play to compete with Georgia.

Utah 30 BYU 12

The HOLY WAR is always a slugfest. There are high hopes for the Utes this year and they used a pair of defensive TDs to pull away from the Cougars.

ROLL TIDE 42 Duke 3

Alabama started a bit slow and then turned on the jets. QB Tua Tagovailoa started out with a fine performance (26/31, 336, 4-0 TD to INT). ROLL TIDE was without their star MLB (OFY injury) and had a number of suspensions to deal with in the first half.

Stanford 17 Northwestern 7

It was an ugly SNOT BUBBLER and both teams suffered injuries at QB. The Cardinal salted the game away with a defensive TD.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 1

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking, because really, who cares what a random hotel tycoon or retired politician on a “committee” has to say. Just kidding. Not really.

  1. ROLL TIDE – Very impressive week one demolition of the Blue Devils.
  2. Clemson – Starters out early, big game with Horns on deck!
  3. LSU – Wiped the mat with Ga Southern, QB Burrow looked great.
  4. Georgia – Held serve, Rushing attack was fantastic.
  5. Oklahoma – Jalen Hurts off to an excellent start, Defense needs work.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Auburn – Young QB, Need a bit of help at WR. LOADED otherwise.

Michigan – A bit sloppy this week but offense has potential to be pretty good.

Ohio St – 28-0 in a blink, uneven play after that. Feel like D will be much better this year.

How is our predicted FINAL FOUR looking right now?

ROLL TIDE, Clemson, Oklahoma, Michigan

Nothing much to say at this point. Everyone held serve.

LOOKING AHEAD TO WEEK 2!

BIGGIE SIZE entertainment!

Texas A&M at Clemson

Yes, guy. Two of the best QBs in college football go head-to-head.

LSU at Texas

The Tigers are National Championship contenders. Texas could REALLY make a big statement here. Horns always a dangerous underdog with HC Tom Herman.

Stanford at USC

Trojans lost their starting QB. Stanford signal-caller KJ Costello was banged up vs Northwestern. Nonetheless, this is always a game we need to watch.

UNDER-THE-RADAR SIZZLERS!

Cincinnati at Ohio St

We are really high on the Bearcats. Former Ohio St player and interim Buckeyes HC Luke Fickell makes his return to Columbus.

Nebraska at Colorado

Revenge is dish BEST SERVED COLD. Huskers look to exact payback for last year’s loss to the Buffs. These are former BIG EIGHT Conference rivals.

UCF at Florida Atlantic

Two exciting teams. FAU would love to pull the upset and become the new Florida kid on the block.

Western Michigan at Michigan St

Best team in the MAC (?) vs the nastiest D around. Upset alert?

Oregon at Hawaii

Late night action, baby! Hawaii will look to hit BACK TO BACK JACKS over PAC 12 foes. They are a really fun team to watch. Try and stay up for this bad boy.

Enjoy Week 2!
