College Football Week 10 in Review!

College Football Week 10 in Review

Hey, everyone.

It’s hard to believe we are already into November. The college football season takes forever to get here and then goes way too fast!

Notable games

Georgia 24 Florida 17

The Bulldogs took a stranglehold of the SEC East and look to be setting themselves up for another trip to the SEC Championship Game. The ground game wasn’t as strong as most folks thought it would be (37/119, 3.2, 0 TD) but QB Jake Fromm was fantastic and played as well as you could have expected vs a tough Gators defense. Florida had no ground attack and THAT was expected, but the deciding factor in this game was Florida’s inability to stretch the field with the THROW GAME. No completions over 30 yards. It was a competitive game but Florida really never gave a serious push.

Oregon 56 USC 24

Whoa, Nellie.

Oregon did a number on the Trojans in a venue that has been tough on opposing teams over the past few seasons. USC cut the lead to 21-17 twenty seconds (!) before halftime but then allowed a KO return TD. That killed the momentum, and turnovers were a major problem. USC now needs to run the table and hope for a Utah loss (not likely) in order to win the PAC 12 South. The Ducks are rolling and are the only team in the conference that look like they can give Utah a run for their money. Thankfully, that is exactly the match-up we are likely to get in December!

Utah 33 Washington 28

Speaking of Utah, they looked to be in a bit of trouble down 21-13 but then got their mojo back with a PICK SIX. QB Tyler Huntley outplayed the Huskies QB Jacob Eason and RB Zack Moss continued to show why he is one of the best RBs in college football. Moss banked 100 yards rushing, many of them in tough fashion, and also caught five passes for 41 yards and a TD. It’s been a disappointing year for Washington.

Memphis 54 SMU 48

WOW. Just as anticipated. A very competitive game with lots of points between two teams fighting for a big-time bowl berth. Both teams kept coming on offense (each squad over 500Y) and there were no turnovers in the contest. Memphis, SMU and Navy are tied atop the AAC West as we go to press. The Bearcats have a strangehold in the AAC East. We anticipate a strong bowl season for this conference as it is loaded with good teams.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 10

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking.

  1. ROLL TIDE – Epic match-up with LSU on Saturday. Hopefully Tua can go at QB.
  2. Ohio St – Essentially even with ROLL TIDE in our ratings. Maryland up next (uh, oh).
  3. LSU – Definitely have a shot to beat Alabama.
  4. Clemson – Lurking in the weeds.
  5. Georgia – Haven’t allowed a rushing TD all year.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Florida – Talented on both sides of the ball. Legit top-10 team.

Oklahoma – Explosive. Hopefully the D can return to prior season form.

Oregon – Appear to be on a collision course with Utah. Need to win out for playoff shot.

Penn St – Date with Ohio St for all the Big Ten East marbles on November 23.

Utah – Playing exceptional football the last month or so.

BIG GAMES THIS WEEK!

LSU at Alabama

What a match-up. Can’t wait to see the ratings for this bad boy. Two of the most explosive offenses in college football should be able to put on a show. ROLL TIDE can continue their SEC West dominance. LSU QB Joe Burrow has a shot to make a Heisman moment. Let’s go!

Penn St at Minnesota

Two UNDEFEATED Big Ten squads go head-to-head. Biggest game for Minnesota football in a long time. It’ll be interesting to see if the Gophers can handle the big rise in class after playing a soft schedule to start the year.

Baylor at TCU

The Bears sit atop (!) the Big 12 with an undefeated record but have dates with the Sooners and Longhorns on deck. They don’t wanna slip up here. TCU is always capable of a big effort at home.

Iowa at Wisconsin

Should be a good ol’ fashioned Big Ten SNOT BUBBLER. Both teams have great defenses. Who will make enough plays on offense? Both teams need this game in the worst way as Minnesota has scampered out to a two-game lead in the division. The good news? Iowa and Wisconsin both play Minnesota in November and stay in the hunt with a win on Saturday.

Iowa St at Oklahoma

Pretty much a must-win game for the Cyclones if they want to find their way to the Big 12 Championship Game. That was a realistic goal before the season started. The Sooners are still looking good in the conference race BUT really don’t want to fall into a giant LOGJAM in second place. Another loss would also officially kill their playoff hopes. Big time Saturday night action.

Enjoy Week 11!
