College Football Week 11 in Review!

Hey, everyone.

We have almost reached the end of the regular season. Nooooooo!

In any event, here is our weekly snapshot of what’s going down in college football.

The BIG games

ROLL TIDE 24 Mississippi St 0

Yawn. Alabama rolled again and it’s worth noting that they have recorded back-to-back shutouts over a pair of pretty good teams (LSU, Mississippi St). It’s an exhibition game vs Citadel before the season finale with Auburn and SLUGFEST with Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Clemson 27 Boston College 7

The Tigers clinched the ACC Atlantic and pummeled a good Boston College team on the road. The score was a bit misleading as they outgained the Eagles 424-113 and gave up zero points on defense (punt return TD for BC). They need to stay focused in the last two weeks in contests vs Duke and South Carolina.

Georgia 27 Auburn 10

The Bulldogs appear to be getting into gear at just the right time as they rushed for 303 (!) yards against a really good front seven. Reserve a spot in front of your TV for ROLL TIDE vs Georgia. Whoa, Nellie!

Oklahoma 48 Oklahoma St 47

The Big 12 delivers week after week. This was a classic version of BEDLAM as the Sooners stopped a two-point conversion attempt by the Cowboys to bag the one-point victory. Amaze your POOL BOY with this gem. Oklahoma hasn’t lost a game in November since 2014. The end of the regular season date with West Virginia should be fantastic.

Ohio St 26 Michigan St 6

The Spartans couldn’t do anything on offense but the Buckeyes deserve a bit of the credit for an improved defensive performance. It looks like a virtual certainty that we will get a yuuuuuge Michigan vs Ohio St match-up on November 24th for all the Big Ten East marbles, yo.

Northwestern 14 Iowa 10

Way to go, Cats! Northwestern bagged their first Big Ten division title and await the winner of Michigan vs Ohio St. Just keep telling them they have no chance every week. Thanks in advance.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 11

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking.

  1. ROLL TIDE – They are a sophisticated football ROBOT sent back from the year 2439 to destroy everything in their path. Just kidding. Not really.
  2. Clemson – Closing the gap with Alabama. Amirite?
  3. Georgia  – Decisive wins over Florida, Kentucky and Auburn in consecutive weeks.
  4. Michigan – Rolling right along. Ridiculous defense.
  5. Notre Dame – Taking care of business. Still a pair of tough games left (Syracuse, USC).

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

LSU – Still a top-10 team on paper even with a pair of losses.

Ohio St – Can still bag a Big Ten Championship in a “down year”.

Oklahoma – How long can the amazing offense and horrific defense combo hold up?

Washington St – A close shave with USC away from being undefeated.

West Virginia – Would love to see these guys in the Big 12 Championship Game.

How is our predicted FINAL FOUR looking right now?

ROLL TIDE, Georgia, Clemson, Wisconsin.

Alabama and Clemson are clearly the two best teams at this point but the Georgia Bulldogs are in peak form. It’s not unthinkable that all three of these squads sneak into the playoff. <grabs popcorn>

JUGGERNAUTS and JABBAWOCKEEZ

Congrats to these programs who have exceeded expectations AND have a shot to keep on rolling.

Cincinnati – Have a big game with UCF this weekend and can bag their 10th (!) win of the season with an upset. They are still alive to make the conference title game.

Tulane – Sitting at 5-5 and need just one more victory to become bowl eligible. Their last trip to a bowl game was back in 2013 and their last bowl VICTORY was back in 2002. Oh ya. And they can still win the conference.

Syracuse – Yup. They are 8-2. They can make a yuuuuuge impact on the playoff picture with an upset over Notre Dame in the Bronx this Saturday.

Pittsburgh – Sure, they would have to play Clemson, but the Panthers are THIS close to winning the Coastal Divison and getting a trip to the ACC Championship Game.

Northwestern – Worth noting again. They are on their way to the Big Ten Championship.

UAB – Yes, guy! Salted away a spot to play for all the Conference USA marbles. Two years ago they weren’t even playing football.

Buffalo – A two game lead in the division. Just need to win one more game to bag a trip to Detroit (Ohio, Bowling Green).

Utah St – Massive game at Boise St on November 24th. They have already tallied nine wins. Great work, Aggies.

ULM – Already bowl eligible and still have a shot to win the Sun Belt. This program has never won a bowl game and have only participated in ONE (2012 Independence Bowl). Let’s go Warhawks!

SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK!

Enjoy week 12!
