College Football Week 2 in Review!

Hey, everyone!

Another great week of college football. A few of the top-end games were blowouts BUT there were a lot of really intriguing games that made for a fantastic Saturday!

The BIG games

Clemson 28 Texas A&M 26

The Tigers were fortunate to escape Kyle Field with a hard-fought victory. Aggies’ QB Kellen Mond threw for over 400 (!) yards and played well enough to win the game for Texas A&M. HC Jimbo Fisher has put his stamp on this team early on and they just might be a SURPRISE PACKAGE in the SEC before it is all said and done. <circles September 22 game at ROLL TIDE>

Georgia 41 South Carolina 17

The Dawgs bagged a PICK SIX less than a minute into the game and made it 14-0 a few minutes later. The Cocks battled for 60 minutes but could not withstand the onslaught in the second half.  We expected a closer game and our takeaway is that Georgia is THAT good. South Carolina will still do some damage.

Stanford 17 USC 3

The Cardinal are REALLY good and USC should not be downgraded too much based on a tough road loss. Stanford has only given up 13 points in two games and their September 22nd tilt at Oregon is appointment television.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 2

This is how we rank the teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site.

  1. ROLL TIDE – They are a sophisticated football ROBOT sent back from the year 2439 to destroy everything in their path. Just kidding. Not really.
  2. Georgia – That win over a good AND motivated South Carolina team is more impressive than you might think at first glance.
  3. Clemson – Struggled more than anticipated with Texas A&M but that is not an easy place to bag a road win. They should get better over the course of the season.
  4. Ohio St – Essentially even with Clemson according to our NCAA POWER RATING INSIDERS. Keep in mind that they beat Oregon St and Rutgers in their first two games. Big game with TCU this week.
  5. Oklahoma – Losing star RB Rodney Anderson is not going to help but they are still loaded.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Auburn – Not sure they have the explosiveness of seasons’ past but the D is nasty.

Mississippi St – Keep overlooking these guys. Thanks in advance.

TCU – Another one of our sleeeeeepers. Massive test vs Ohio St on Saturday.

Washington – Still the most talented team in the PAC-12.

Wisconsin – Two wins over pure filth. Week four date at Iowa looms large.

On the bubble……Stanford, West Virginia

Deep sleepers……Missouri, Texas A&M

How is our predicted FINAL FOUR looking so far?

ROLL TIDE, Georgia, Clemson, Wisconsin.

Still feel pretty good that ROLL TIDE and Georgia will find their way into the playoff. Clemson looked human this week in a tough spot. Wisconsin still appears to have a clear path to the Big 10 Championship. Then again, it’s not even mid-September.

Did we miss the boat or what, yo?

Florida St, Miami and Michigan St have been disappointing.

In case you missed it!

Kentucky ended their epic 31 (!) game losing streak to Florida. Fun trivia. Kentucky won the game 27-16 without running a red-zone play. Amaze the local SMOKESHOW SOCCER MOM with that gem.

Arkansas blew an 18-point 2nd-half lead at home to Colorado St.

Ole Miss gave up over 600 yards to something called Southern Illinois in a 76-41 win. They play ROLL TIDE this week.

Iowa has allowed 10 points in two games.

Oregon has SCORED 120 points in two games.

Key injuries: Oklahoma star RB Rodney Anderson is OFY. Duke QB Daniel Jones is out indefinitely and that will hurt the emerging JUGGERNAUT Blue Devils.

Kansas won their first road game since 2009 (beat Central Michigan 31-7).

New Mexico St has lost their last two games by a combined score of 108-23. Connecticut has lost by a combined score of 118-24 in their first two contests.

Memphis led Navy 21-9 after three quarters. What could possibly happen? Navy wins 22-21.

Imagine enjoying the occasional wager. Imagine having Florida Atlantic -8 with less than a minute left only to see Air Force block a punt and return it for a TD. Final score? 33-27. Thanks for your patronage. Drive safely.

Eastern Michigan SHOCKED the WORLD with a last second win over Purdue (W 20-19).

SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK!!

Enjoy week 3.
