College Football Week 4 in Review!

College Football Week 4 in Review

Hey, everyone!

WHOA, NELLIE. It’s hard to believe we’ve already finished week 4 action. There were some big games and crazy finishes.

Georgia 23 Notre Dame 17

This was a very entertaining game with the Fighting Irish hanging in there from start to finish. Georgia almost blew a 23-10 fourth quarter lead but managed to get the final stop they needed. The Bulldogs weren’t able to impose their will with the rushing attack but thankfully they have a solid defense and one of the best QBs in college football in Jake Fromm. Notre Dame’s playoff dreams will now require them to run the table and see what happens. Georgia isn’t likely to be tested again until November 2nd when they play the Gators.

Wisconsin 35 Michigan 14

The Badgers pounded the Wolverines into submission and rolled out to a 35-0 lead. Wisconsin has beaten their three opponents by a combined score of 145-14 and have served notice that they are the team to beat in the West division of the Big Ten. Michigan? Yikes. You never want to overreact in September but it seems to us that it’s a talent AND motivation issue. That makes it unlikely we see them rebound, but it’s not impossible. Stay tuned.

Pittsburgh 35 UCF 34

It took a trick play in the form of the PITT SPECIAL to give the Panthers a late lead and eventual victory over UCF. The Knights amazing regular season winning streak has finally come to an end (27 games) and they deserve a ton of credit for that phenomenal run.

USC 30 Utah 23

Yes, guy. The Trojans found a way to get it done AGAIN vs the Utes at home. This time? They were down to their 3rd string QB and still managed to score 30 points on a very strong defense. No surprise, really. Utah may or may not be the best team “on paper” in the PAC 12 but any team that ends up playing in a lot of close games is bound to lose a few. Their path to a conference title is still very much in play BUT they need some help now that the Trojans bagged the big win.

Auburn 28 Texas A&M 20

Hopefully we won’t hear about how bad the Auburn QB is anymore, and how they have no chance to win road games. Won’t happen, but it’s fun to dream. Bo Nix is learning on the job and will make mistakes but he’s a great fit for the offense. The Tigers have a solid TEAM but the schedule is BRUTALLY tough and it will be difficult to navigate without dropping at least a few games. Texas A&M is a good team but still a year away from doing big things in the SEC West.

UCLA 67 Washington St 63

Down 49-17 in third quarter? No problem. UCLA pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in college football history. Cougars’ QB Anthony Gordon threw NINE TD passes in the loss. College football never fails to deliver!

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 4

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking.

  1. ROLL TIDE – Smashed a tomato can this week. Ole Miss up next.
  2. Clemson – Will anyone give them a scare during the regular season?
  3. LSU – Joe Burrow. WHOA, NELLIE.
  4. Georgia – Quality win vs Notre Dame. Don’t appear to have a weakness.
  5. Oklahoma – Enjoyed a week off. First big test comes October 12 vs Texas.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Auburn – Solid group from head to toe.

Ohio St – “Best of the rest”. May get a test this week at CORN.

Oregon – STEALTH BOMBERS. Capable of running the table.

Texas – Well coached and talented. Fine combination.

Wisconsin – BONECRUSHERS.

JUGGERNAUTS and JABBAWOCKEEZ

Here are some under-the-radar squads that have gotten off to good starts and are capable of making noise down the stretch in their respective conferences. Opponents, ignore at your peril.

Tulane – Off to a good 3-1 start with their lone loss coming at Auburn. More than capable of getting to the AAC Championship Game.

Iowa St – People may have forgotten about them after their tough loss to Iowa. Their conference slate starts this week with a trip to Baylor. They are more than capable of rattling off a bunch of Big 12 wins before the big games with Oklahoma and Texas.

Maryland – They are much better on BOTH sides of the football this season and are more than capable of SHOCKING the WORLD any given Saturday.

Charlotte – The East division of C-USA is wide open and these guys can SCORE THE FOOTBALL. First conference test comes this Saturday vs the Fighting Kiffins.

Buffalo – Ohio might not be a mortal lock in the MAC East.

Hawaii – Still consider these guys major players in the Mountain West.

Colorado – Schedule is going to get nasty but they are much better than we anticipated.

Missouri – Defense. Check. QB. Check.

Louisiana – Gearing up for another conference title shot.

Enjoy Week 5!
