College Football Week 6 in Review!

Hey, everyone!

Another great week of college football is in the books. Please don’t tell me we are entering the second half of the regular season. It goes way too fast.

The BIG games

Florida 27 LSU 19

LSU started out with an impressive drive and it was tough sledding after they bagged an early lead. The Florida run game was truly impressive especially in the fourth quarter. Cancel any Saturday wedding plans (even if it’s your own wedding) on October 27th when Florida takes on Georgia.

Notre Dame 45 Virginia Tech 23

The Irish are moving like a TREMENDOUS MACHINE and can boast wins over Michigan, Stanford and now Virginia Tech. HC Brian Kelly is pushing all the right buttons and they only need to escape a date with Pitt this week in order to head into their bye week at 7-0.

Texas 48 Oklahoma 45

Yet ANOTHER great edition of this rivalry. No wonder we look forward to this match-up every year. Texas opened up a 45-24 lead (!) only to watch the Sooners storm back and tie the game. The Horns won it with a late FG and just made the Big 12 race a LOT more interesting.

Miami 28 Florida St 27

YOUR Miami Hurricanes found themselves down by a score of 27-7 but managed to win in a game that will be referred to as THE COMEBACK centuries from now. Florida St has a long tradition of losing games to Miami in the most painful ways possible.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 6

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking.

  1. ROLL TIDE – They are a sophisticated football ROBOT sent back from the year 2439 to destroy everything in their path. Just kidding. Not really.
  2. Georgia – Have not been tested yet but it gets REAL this week at LSU.
  3. Ohio St – A toss-up with Clemson at this point. Schedule looks really favorable.
  4. Clemson – Destroyed Wake Forest this week and QB Lawrence and the D were sharp.
  5. Notre Dame – Hard to argue with results. A clear notch below the top-4.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Michigan – Big game with the Badgers on Saturday.

Oklahoma – Tons of firepower but say goodbye to DC Mike Stoops.

Penn St – Could make an argument for #5. Get Sparty at home this week.

Texas – Just getting it done. QB Sam Ehlinger emerging as a real leader.

Washington – Talented, but inconsistent. Huge game at Oregon this Saturday.

How is our predicted FINAL FOUR looking right now?

ROLL TIDE, Georgia, Clemson, Wisconsin.

Still feel pretty good that ROLL TIDE and Georgia will find their way into the playoff. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence appears to have escaped serious injury and their schedule is very manageable.  Wisconsin has a clear path to the Big Ten Championship but will almost certainly need to run the table in to get to the playoff.

JUGGERNAUTS and JABBAWOCKEEZ – Under the radar teams

Here is a short list of teams that we have upgraded considerably since the start of the season.

In no particular order……..

Washington St – A darkhorse to upset the apple cart in the PAC 12. D has been solid and QB Gardner Minshew leads the FBS in passing yards.

Utah St – We liked these guys before the season and like them even MORE now. HC Matt Wells is going to be hot property in the offseason.

Georgia Southern – Live longshot to take all the Sun Belt marbles.

Hawaii – Gutted out a big home win with a back-up QB.

Kent St – Have improved quite a bit and almost SHOCKED the WORLD this week losing to Ohio by a point (27-26)

SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK!!

Enjoy week 7.
