College Football Week 6 in Review!

College Football Week 6 in Review

Hey, everyone!

Things went according to plan for the most part in week 6. The majority of the big boys held serve and that means we’re in for some BIG games in the second half of the season.

Notable games

Florida 24 Auburn 13

A sloppy but entertaining game. The Florida defense did a great job holding down the Auburn offense and QB Bo Nix. The outcome was still in doubt in the 4th quarter until the Gators broke off their longest TD run since EMMITT SMITH had a 96-yard scamper vs Mississippi St in 1988. Auburn is a solid team but this loss probably dooms their SEC West chances as they still have ROLL TIDE, LSU and Georgia (!!!) left on the docket. Florida? A fine win, that’s for sure. They’ll need to clean things up on offense if they plan on giving Georgia a fight on November 2nd.

Ohio St 34 Michigan St 10

The Buckeyes rushed for 323 yards against one of the premier run defenses in college football. Ohio St busted the game open in the 2nd quarter with 24 points and shutout Sparty in the 2nd half. The first big test was passed. Wisconsin looms for the Buckeyes on October 26.

Oregon 17 California 7

The Golden Bears took at 7-0 lead into halftime and played inspired football in support of their back-up QB. Oregon was able to grind this bad boy out in the second half. Good news for the PAC 12. The Ducks keep stacking up wins after their loss to Auburn and their defense is one of the least appreciated units in the country.

Michigan 10 Iowa 3

Fantastic performance from the defense holding a solid Iowa squad to three points whilst bagging 8 sacks. The offense is still pretty gross. They scored a TD about 6 minutes into the game and didn’t score another one the rest of the way. Will they be able to beat teams like Notre Dame, Penn St and Ohio St (insert joke here) with this kind of offensive production? Doubtful.

Stanford 23 Washington 13

Great win for Stanford! The Cardinal punished Washington for four quarters with their back-up QB and much-maligned defense to the tune of a 482-294 yard advantage. We would like to see David Shaw get more credit but BS narratives are hard to squash.

Cincinnati 27 UCF 24

The week got off to a fun start on Friday night when the Bearcats took down UCF who just couldn’t stop making mistakes and being inefficient in the red zone. GREAT game for the Cincinnati defense who abused the UCF offensive line for much of the game. And QB Desmond Ridder played (maybe?) the best game of his career. The AAC is now wide open, baby.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 6

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking.

  1. ROLL TIDE – Passing offense is crazy good. Defense showing some holes.
  2. LSU – Tied with Ohio St in our ratings. Abused a decent Utah St team on Saturday.
  3. Ohio St – Have looked amazing all year; Passed first real test with “A+” grade.
  4. Clemson – Could put Georgia here. Need to shake the cobwebs off, yo.
  5. Georgia – Should have smooth sailing until November 2nd clash with Florida.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Auburn – Fill out our Top 10. On paper, really good. Schedule is NASTY.

Notre Dame – Can’t wait for the USC game on Saturday!

Oklahoma – “Best of the rest”. First test comes this week vs Texas.

Oregon – NFL-caliber QB and excellent defense.

Penn St – More dynamic than Wisconsin on offense. D rock solid.

BIG GAMES THIS WEEK!

This is the best card of the season. Condolences to those who got roped into attending a wedding on Saturday.

Oklahoma vs Texas

One of our favorite games every year goes this Saturday. It will be interesting to see if the Longhorns can hang in this game given the number of injuries they are dealing with as we go to press. The Sooners have been crushing TOMATO CANS all year (Houston, South Dakota, UCLA, Texas Tech, Kansas) and the Longhorns have one of the best QBs in college football. Let’s go!

ROLL TIDE at Texas A&M

Alabama should cruise but the Aggies are talented and well-coached, not to mention that the Tide have had some problems on defense. Still feels like the Alabama passing game will be too much to handle for Texas A&M.

Michigan St at Wisconsin

Can Sparty get up off the mat and give the Badgers a game? Wisconsin should be able to hold serve and need to keep winning in a competitive Big Ten West division.

USC at Notre Dame

The Trojans have been able to score with any QB under center and have played decent defense. The problem? Notre Dame is a legit TOP TEN quality opponent. Classic college football rivalry goes on Saturday night!

Penn St at Iowa

We find out if Penn St is for real. It’s never easy to win at Iowa but how do the Hawkeyes bounce back off last week’s really poor performance? This is the first of three tough games for the Nittany Lions (Michigan, Michigan St up next).

Florida at LSU

The HITS KEEP COMING!

Saturday night in Baton Rouge means a wild atmosphere, not to mention that a pair of rock solid teams will be knocking heads. Florida’s pass rush has been devastating and they will have to find a way to get pressure on one of the best QBs around in Joe Burrow.

Enjoy Week 7!
