College Football Week 9 in Review!

Hey, everyone.

Another great week of action is in the books! Upsets, dominating performances and plenty of drama.

The BIG games

Georgia 36 Florida 17

“THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE.” – Dennis Green.

Georgia put on their best performance of the season and dominated the Gators in a 36-17 win. Florida did their best to hang around as long as they could but the Bulldogs were too much. They outgained Florida 429-275 behind a fine performance from QB Jake Fromm and the defense. This sets up a virtual WINNER TAKE ALL match-up for the SEC East this weekend as Georgia visits Kentucky.

Clemson 59 Florida St 10

Yup, that happened. The Tigers pounded the living daylights out of Florida St and administered the worst home beating in Seminoles history. Clemson also became the first ACC team to beat Florida St four consecutive times. There is still some football to be played in the regular season but our thesis that this team is building every week to peak for the playoffs certainly seems to be on track.

Oklahoma St 38 Texas 35

The Pokes won a high-scoring battle with the Longhorns and that means that Texas is now in a three-way tie atop the Big 12 standings (Oklahoma, West Virginia). Get a spot reserved in front of your TV for this Saturday as West Virginia and Texas go head-to-head. The Big 12 has delivered some really exciting football this season and several teams still have a shot to make the conference title game.

Washington St 41 Stanford 38

The Cougars just might be the best team in the PAC-12 and they gutted out a close shave on the road vs Stanford. In any other season we would be talking about Washington St QB Gardner Minshew as a Heisman Trophy candidate.

Penn St 30 Iowa 24

Iowa made a critical mistake deep in Penn St territory late in the 4th quarter and that cost them a shot at the win. Penn St QB Trace McSorley put on a gutsy display and proved why he is one of the best players in college football. Iowa falls into into a 3-way tie for second place in the competitive Big Ten West.

MEGALOCKS TOP 10 after WEEK 9

This is how we rate teams based on who would win a theoretical match-up on a neutral site. It is NOT meant to be a “playoff” ranking.

  1. ROLL TIDE – They are a sophisticated football ROBOT sent back from the year 2439 to destroy everything in their path. Just kidding. Not really.
  2. Clemson – Won their last three conference games by a combined score of 163-20.
  3. LSU – Clear notch below the top-2 and are even with Oklahoma. Clash with ROLL TIDE on Saturday!
  4. Oklahoma – Sneaky-tough game with Texas Tech this Saturday.
  5. Michigan – Penn St visits Ann Arbor this weekend to try and ruin their playoff push.

Next in line (in alphabetical order)

Georgia – Big win vs Florida on Saturday. A hair below the Wolverines on our power meter.

Notre Dame – Could make a case for a top-5 placing. Tough game at Northwestern on Saturday.

Ohio St – This is still a top-10 team on paper.

Utah – Four straight games with 40+ points. Rolling and have a nasty D.

West Virginia – Huge showdown with Texas on deck.

How is our predicted FINAL FOUR looking right now?

ROLL TIDE, Georgia, Clemson, Wisconsin.

ROLL TIDE seems unstoppable but the game at LSU this Saturday might not be a lay-up. Alabama’s best win? Home vs Texas A&M? At Ole Miss? Clemson is nuking everything in their path and should be able to run the table. Then again, this is college football. Anything can happen. Georgia is more than capable of winning out but it won’t be easy, yo.

JUGGERNAUTS and JABBAWOCKEEZ

Here is a short list of teams that have a chance to pull a big upset down the stretch and make the scramble for the playoff and major bowl games a lot more interesting! Remember, almost anything can happen in college football, and you NEVER know when someone might SHOCK THE WORLD.

LSU – The Tigers play nasty defense and get ROLL TIDE at home this Saturday. If they win this weekend and find their way into the SEC Championship Game what do we do with Alabama?

Boston College – They sit a game back of Clemson in the ACC Atlantic. If they can muster up some magic and take down the Tigers at home on November 10th…..Whoa, Nellie!

Kentucky – Last time we checked, Kentucky was pretty good. They are 10-point home underdogs this Saturday vs Georgia as we go to press.

Syracuse – The Orange get Notre Dame at a neutral site on November 17th and are playing good football right now.

Penn St – Can the Nittany Lions deal Michigan a DEATH BLOW to their playoff hopes behind all-UNIVERSE QB Trace McSorley? Puncher’s chance.

Texas Tech – They have one of the most dangerous passing QBs on the planet and are playing decent defense. Oklahoma is on SUPAH HOT FIRE but they are on upset-alert this weekend in Lubbock.

SEE YOU ALL NEXT WEEK!

Enjoy week 10.
