2021 Recap

Record – 1-11

ATS – 6-6

The Huskies returned to the gridiron after missing the 2020 season due to the totally scientific PLANDEMIC rules and picked up right where they left off in 2018 and 2019 (combined record 3-21). They were shutout by their first two opponents by a combined total of 94-CACK and their only win came over something known as Yale. They made a very interesting hire at HC in Jim Mora.

Let’s check in with the program and see what things look like heading into 2022.

Connecticut Huskies 2022 Outlook

OFFENSE

The offense was a nightmare for fans to behold LY (#128 FBS total offense, #122 rush, #116 pass, dead last passing efficiency, 40 sacks allowed) but there are some decent pieces to work with this season. RB Nathan Carter showed some good flashes LY as a true freshman (578, 4.6, 2 TD, 19 receptions) and WR Keelan Marion led the Huskies in receiving yards whilst averaging a robust 16.9 YPC (5 TD). And don’t forget about WR Cameron Ross who led the team in both receptions and total yards in 2019 (60, 723; injured 2021). There are a couple of athletic options at QB in Tyler Phommachanh (cup of coffee LY) and Penn St (!) transfer Ta’Quan Roberson. Three starters return to an OL that performed poorly in 2021 and they’ll rely on a pile of transfers to help get the unit pointed in the right direction. The Huskies have put up 15.6 and 18.9 PPG L2Y but we expect them to book 20+ PPG in 2022. <crosses fingers>  update Aug 22 – WR C Ross likely OFY with foot injury

DEFENSE

The Huskies weren’t a TOTAL train wreck last year (#110 FBS run D, #101 pass efficiency D) but they still allowed 38.5 PPG (#123) and tallied a mere 13 sacks (T126). They should be an improved bunch this season with the return of their top-six tacklers (8 RS) and a yuuuge upgrade in the coaching department. They add a number of transfers to the front of their new 3-4 alignment and they’ll need to contribute immediately after the loss of NFL-bound (!) DT Travis Jones. Impact playmaker Kevon Jones (8 TFL, 11 QBH LY) moves from DL to LB and recall that inside LB Jackson Mitchell led the team in tackles a season ago (120, 6.5 TFL). The Huskies allowed 30 TD passes LY (#127) and will need to be better on the back end. They return three starters in the secondary and have the potential be a lot better if the front seven can be more disruptive. We’ll call for slight improvement this year but they’re much more likely to surprise to the upside than the downside. <crosses fingers once again> update Aug 22 – Kevon Jones no longer with team

SPECIAL TEAMS

WHOA, NELLIE. Things look good. PK Joe McFadden is back for duty (12-17 FG LY, 19-19 XP) and they add Arkansas transfer George Caratan at punter. PR Keelan Marion averaged 12.4 yards a pop LY and KR Brian Brewton took a PAIR of kickoffs to the HIZZY JIZZY WIZZY (24, 29.9, 2 TD). update Aug 22 – PK J McFadden OFY ACL

Schedule Analysis

Overall – It’s pretty tough but there are three or four winnable affairs. The back half of the schedule is more manageable and they have three home games in November.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – October 15th – at Ball St

This will be the 4th road game in five weeks and their bye week is on deck.

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

That looks about right. They’ll play a better brand of football but we’d need to see a “2” before taking a taste of the ‘over’.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

In 1919, Gardner Dow died from injuries sustained from a FLYING TACKLE he delivered in a game against New Hampshire. The athletic fields were subsequently named after him and were the home for most athletic teams for three decades. Impress the next PARANOID TRIPLE-MASKED MOUNTAIN CLIMBER you come across with that sweet little trivia nugget.

Connecticut is an absolutely disgusting 39-69-1 ATS (36%) L10Y.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

Things are looking up for this squad in 2022. The roster is improved on both sides of the football and we like the hire of Jim Mora as HC. The schedule is challenging, and they still have a lot of work to do, but at least there’s finally good reason for optimism in Storrs.

Go Huskies!
