Florida St Seminoles 2022 College Football Preview

Florida St Seminoles 2022 College Football Preview

2021 Recap

Record – 5-7

ATS – 5-6-1

The CRIMINOLES got off to a brutal 0-4 start that included a last second home loss to something called Jacksonville St (L 20-17), but they get full marks for not throwing in the towel the rest of the way. They won five of their last eight contests and only lost to Clemson, NC State, and Florida. The college football world was saddened by Florida St’s 31-28 victory over YOUR Miami Hurricanes, but despite that win, the Noles missed out on a bowl game for the 2nd consecutive campaign.

Can Florida St show improvement in year three of the Mike Norvell regime?

Florida St Seminoles 2022 Outlook

OFFENSE

The Noles had an acceptable ground attack LY (178 YPG, #6 ACC) but they struggled getting much done thru the air for the second straight season (202 YPG, #9 ACC). The run game wasn’t nearly as potent over the L5G (65,38,160,114,145) vs better competition so it’ll be interesting to see what happens in 2022. Two of their top-three RBs return for duty and they add Oregon transfer Trey Benson for depth. They’ll be running behind an experienced OL that returns four starters but they need to improve the pass protection (36 sacks, #11 ACC). The offense will go as far as QB Jordan Travis can take them with the THROW GAME (63%, 15-6 TD to INT) as he needs to take that next step as a passer. The majority of the WR/TE weaponry returns this year but they’ll need to get some legit ACC doods on the field. WR Ontario Wilson has potential (16.6, 5 TD LY) and we like the additions of WR Mycah Pittman (Oregon) and Johnny Wilson (Arizona St). TE Camren McDonald might also be ready to blossom. Our DEEP ACC INSIDERS believe that the offense has a decent shot to average 30 PPG for the first time since 2016.

DEFENSE

Florida St was decent across the board LY (#6 ACC run D, #5 pass efficiency D, 33 sacks) but they haven’t had anything better than a “good” defense since 2017. Where are the NFL doods? Where are the killers? The Noles return eight starters and a lot of significant contributors from LY’s squad but they lost their two best defensive players in DE Jermaine Johnson (12 sacks, 12 QBH LY, Round 1 NFL DC) and DL Keir Thomas (12 TFL, 15 QBH). The DL looks fine even when considering the aforementioned losses as they have good size inside and just need to find a pass rush from their DEs. An experienced LB group adds a fine specimen from UCF in Tatum Bethune who led the Knights in tackles LY whilst also picking off a pair of passes. The secondary appears solid with the return of three starters including leading tackler and 1st Team ACC honoree JAMMIE Robinson and keep your eye on true freshman star recruit Sam MCall at CB. This is an above-average defense, but if they want to be better than that, they’ll have to uncover a couple of legit pass rush threats.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The KR/PR situation is a bit of a mystery but we like the kicking game with the return of PK Ryan Fitzgerald (10-13 FG LY) and punter Alex Mastromanno (41.0 net).

Schedule Analysis

Overall – It’s tougher than you would like to see, but that’s par for the course around these parts. They’ve gotta tangle with Florida and LSU (!) in non-conference play and play the Hurricanes on the road. On the plus side, they only have to deal with four true road games.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – November 12 – at Syracuse

The dome is a tough place to play and the Noles may be in letdown mode after the rivalry game with the Canes.

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

That appears to be the perfect market price in our humble estimation.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

After going 59-9 (!) from 2012-2016 the Seminoles have struggled to a mark of 26-33 (!) over the L5Y.

According to FACT CHECKERS, 92% of Florida St fans wish they could be Miami Hurricanes fans. **

** hey, you can’t deny the knowledge of “FACT CHECKERS”, the same creeps that encouraged brainwashed sheep to take multiple death jabs, wear three masks at a time, and got peeps to believe that there are 887 genders

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

There’s more to like than “not like” with this roster but they’ll need to make a notable improvement on offense and feature a dangerous pass rush if they wanna be considered as a longshot contender in the Atlantic. That seems like a reach, but we still fully expect them to get to a bowl game and look really good at times.
