Colorado St at New Mexico – College Football Predictions

The Game

Colorado St continues on their DATE WITH DESTINY and a spot in the Mountain West Title game. There are a lot of hurdles to jump over before the end of the season but a 3-0 start in conference play is never a bad thing. New Mexico has been up and down all season struggling with the offense and not getting much help on defense. Despite that they are 3-3 and looking to make it to a 3rd straight bowl game. The problem ? The schedule gets nastier in the final half of the season. Can they pull the upset on Saturday ? Let’s dig in !

The Match-Up

Colorado St offense vs New Mexico defense

Welcome to the horror show. Colorado St is #9 in the FBS in total offense with fantastic balance between the run and the pass. QB Nick Stevens is on a mission completing 64% of his passes with a 18-6 TD to INT ratio. The run game is loaded with 1-2 punch D Dawkins and I Matthews rushing for 1,100 yards and 9 TDs whilst the passing game is complemented with a loaded receiving corps. Michael Gallup is phenomenal as he has almost reached the 1,000-yard mark (!) (but let’s give the Heisman to a RB with 600 yards) after posting 1,200 yards and 14 receiving TDs in 2016. Our favorite stat is the sacks allowed……Colorado St has yielded just 2 (!!) sacks all season and are facing a team not exactly known for their PENETRATION. New Mexico allowed 49 points in this match-up in 2016 (a 888 STAR MEGALOCKS TOUT SCUMBAG STICKS IT TO MESSAGE BOARD LOSER MAX UNIT BOMB WINNER) and we so no reason why the Rams cannot score between 35-45 points in this game. <get cho popcone>

New Mexico offense vs Colorado St defense

The Lobos are a mess on offense. Dedicated MEGALOCKS members KNOW that we love this team but the offense is what makes the team go AND they are struggling at QB and the OL. Last season they averaged 350 yards per game rushing and this year have managed just 240. They have used three QBs off and on and this week it appears that the “starter” will be Lamar Jordan. To be honest, it does not appear that there is a solution because the OL is not up to par and the RBs do not have the explosiveness of the 2016 group. They have had a bit of success passing but that is NOT their bread and butter, and not matter how bad the Colorado St secondary is (and it is PURE FILTH), the Lobos are not the team to take advantage of it. The Rams do a great job of stuffing the run (#33 FBS despite playing ROLL TIDE) and this seems like an ugly match-up for Los Lobos.

MEGA-MAZING MINUTIA

Colorado St has won seven straight games in the series by an average of 17+ points per game.

Summary

This seems like a beating waiting to happen. Colorado escaped Nevada last week but New Mexico is not throwing for 500 yards this week.
