The Game

It is BEDLAM ! It is BEDLAM !

It is hard to get much better than this ! Oklahoma and Oklahoma St square off for the Big 12 Title on Saturday and BOTH teams have played solid football all season (combined 18-4 record). The Sooners have won eight straight games whilst the Cowboys have won seven straight games. MEGALOCKS RESEARCH SPARKIES can dig into the details but it seems to us that this is one of the biggest BEDLAM games in recent history.

The Match-Up

Oklahoma offense vs Oklahoma St defense

The Sooners offense is ranked #3 in the FBS and are equally deadly running and passing the football. They are the most efficient team in college football throwing the football. Sure, Baker Mayfield does not get the benefit of running through crappy ACC defenses, throwing for 800 yards a game and making awesome gang gestures after every first down BUT we still feel that he has been the best (or one of the best) players in college football all season. Mayfield has completed well over 70% of his passes and boasts and excellent 35-8 TD to INT ratio. If the Sooners can pull this game out of the hat with a great performance from Mayfield, that smells like a good cap to a Heisman season to us. Then again, we are not useless robotic “committee experts”. When Mayfield is not terrorizing defenses throwing to STAR WR D Westbrook (1354, 19.3, 15) he can rely upon the awesome ground game of J Mixon and S Perine.

We have had a man-crush on HC Gundy and the Cowboys for seemingly centuries. We just do not think that the #89 defense can hold up to the constant pressure that the Sooners are going to put forth on Saturday.

Oklahoma St offense vs Oklahoma defense

The bright side for Cowboys backers is that the Sooners’ pass defense has literally made us laugh this season. And when you have a QB like Mason Rudolph you have to figure you have a shot to keep this game close. Rudolph is going to have his best game of the year to keep this close and hope that the defense can come up with a turnover or two. Or three. We have no doubt that the Cowboys will be able to score a lot of points. Will it be enough ?

MEGA-MAZING MINUTIA

Last season the Sooners administered a PRISON STYLE beat-down winning the game 58-23…..But let us not forget that the Cowboys won the game in 2014 and 21-point underdogs in OT….TREND GUY will be happy to note that the Sooners are 20-8-1 to the over in their last 29 conference games….the Cowboys are 11-3 to the over in their last 14 conference tilts.

Summary

This feels like a game that Oklahoma is going to win. The question – can they cover the spread ? The game and the total seem perfectly lined. The best bet might be to wait to see how the early stages play out and try and in-game with the view to value.
