The Game
Not a great way to start if you are a Cavaliers’ fan. Hey, upsets happen, but Virginia got clobbered by FCS opponent those wacky Richmond Spiders by a score of 37-20. Oregon did not look overly impressive in their tune-up by still hung 50 on UC Davis.
The Match-Up
Oregon offense vs Virginia defense
Virginia’s defense was shredded by the run and the pass last week. And now they travel to Oregon. Oh boy. Oregon QB Dakota Prukop look good in week 1 and the Ducks had nice balance with 251 yards rushing and 271 yards passing. The Saturday forecast calls for raining Oregon points by the 3s and 7s. And 8s knowing them.
Virginia offense vs Oregon defense
The Cavaliers had no success at all running the ball last week. That is a theme we will probably come back to later in the season. The good news is that new QB Kurt Benkert is a keeper. He threw for 264 yards and 3 TDs last week and should be able to do some damage against the Oregon secondary. Can he do enough to keep the Cavs within 24.5 ? Hard to say.
Tasty Tidbits
Oregon has Nebraska on deck next week that will be a lot of fun…..The Ducks gave up 303 yards passing to UC Davis last week – we will set the over/under on passing yards this week at 303.5….Virginia has not won on the road since 2012 (!!)….Amaze your softball buddies with that gem.
Summary
The number looks about right. We can see a 20-30 point Oregon lead heading into the 4th quarter and then watching random TDs back and forth decide the cover.
Conclusion
No official play.
Lean: Lean to over any number 71 or better.
