The Game

Is it possible for Ole Miss to win by six points for the 3rd straight season ? Last year’s 43-37 game was very entertaining and hopefully we will watch another classic on Saturday. Of course, Alabama looks even better than Alabama normally does so this will be a really tough triple for the Rebels.

The Match-Up

Alabama offense vs Ole Miss defense

Crimson Tide freshman QB Jalen Hurts looks really good. He has been very efficient and thrown only one INT in 47 attempts. Damien Harris is averaging over 9 yards per carry and the Tide still have an incredibly dangerous set of WR complemented by TE OJ Howard. We are a bit concerned that they only managed 124 yards rushing last week vs WKU after rolling for 242 vs USC.

Ole Miss is ranked #102 in total defense and have not been able to get off the field on 3rd downs. That is just part of the reason why they are ranked #127 (!) in time of possession at 20 1/2 minutes per game. When the offense moves lightning past and your defense cannot get off the field, it is only reasonable that they get banged up and moved upon despite their efforts. Overall, we do not see Alabama having trouble moving the ball in this game unless they self destruct with turnovers and penalties.

Ole Miss offense vs Alabama defense

After the quick start against Florida St the offense has been a little less explosive than you might have thought. They have not had a dynamic WR emerge as of yet and their depth at RB has been tested with injuries. They have done well on 3rd downs and QB Chad Kelly is an absolute gamer. The Tide are ranked #6 in total defense right now despite playing USC and WKU. Unless they can find a way to stretch the field this might be a tough game to get the cover.

MEGA morsels

Ole Miss has won two straight in the series….if revenge is best served cold – how is double revenge best served ??…..Ole Miss is 23-7 to the under in their last 30 games….We assume the 53-52 game last year went over the total.

Summary

We have a few final tidbits to check but the line and total looks pretty solid at -11 and 55. It is a lot to ask a team to cover that kind of number on the road in the SEC but Alabama just might be THAT good. Cannot count Ole Miss out but this appears to be an uphill battle on paper.
