OLE MISS 7 GEORGIA (62)

Implied Projected Score: Ole Miss 34.5 Georgia 27.5

The Game

The Bulldogs escaped with a win against Missouri last week to open SEC play and have started out 3-0 under new HC Kirby Smart. Ole Miss is 1-2 but losses to Florida St and Alabama do not signal anything other than they lost to really good teams (Florida St is still really good). The problem for Ole Miss that after a loss to Alabama they need some help to get back into the SEC West race.

The Match-Up

Ole Miss offense vs Georgia defense

Man. Chad Kelly is pretty good. It sounds obvious, but the more we watch that dude, the more impressed we get. Never quits. The Rebels do not have much of a running game these days, due in large part to injuries, but Kelly is keeping the offense rolling. Georgia is near the bottom of the SEC in PENETRATION-related stats and the more we looked into this game, the more we think that Ole Miss will easily put up 400+ yards. That means Georgia is going to have to find a way to come up with turnovers (#21 FBS turnover margin; Ole Miss loves to give it away) in order to have a shot in this game. They were +4 against Mizzou and still almost lost.

Georgia offense vs Ole Miss defense

The Bulldogs threw the ball 55 times last week and need to pound Nick Chubb and keep the chains moving in this game. Long-term, QB Jacob Eason looks like a future SEC star, but this week, the Bulldogs best focus on slowing the tempo and running the ball. The defense does not appear to be as strong as we thought so they cannot get into a shootout. The Ole Miss defense has been pretty disappointing so far against the run and the pass. They also only have two takeaways all season. ZERO interceptions. Amaze your friends with that gem. Can the Bulldogs stay within a TD in this game with one (great) RB and one productive WR ? Hmmmmmmmm ?

MEGA Minutia

TREND GUY is going to have a massive card this week and may even dazzle the internet and Twitter with famous imaginary-unit wagers….Georgia has won 10 straight games in the series and has covered 8 of the last 10…..Our biggest worry for Ole Miss is how they come back after not only losing to Alabama but tasting their 2nd defeat.

Summary

We were originally pretty high on Georgia now we are not so sure. The line feels maybe a smidge high but we just don’t know. After two big games already maybe Ole Miss is due for a letdown ?

Conclusion

Official play: None

Lean: Smallest of leans to the Bulldogs but would want 7.5 even if just a small taster.
