The Game
Texas Tech opens up Big 12 play on Thursday night when they take on the Kansas Jayhawks in Lubbock. The Red Raiders have been even more ridiculous than normal so far on offense putting up 69,55,59 in their first three contests. Kansas started out with a blowout win over FCS opponent Rhode Island in week one and then proceeded to get rolled by Ohio at home and blown out by Memphis on the road.
The Match-Up
Texas Tech offense vs Kansas defense
The Red Raiders are on fire. On offense at least. They are averaging over 60 points per game so far and QB Patrick Mahomes has 14 TDs passing and 4 rushing. They will have no problem ripping through the Kansas defense. Here is the tricky part. It is early in the season, and Memphis did not need to throw, but the Jayhawks are ranked #14 in pass efficiency defense. They are experienced enough to hold the Red Raiders to less than 60 but it is hard to promise much else. The ability to stay within 4 TDs will hinge on their ability to force a couple FGs and maybe get a red zone turnover.
Kansas offense vs Texas Tech defense
As great as Texas Tech has been on offense they have absolutely been beyond horrible on defense. Now to be fair, they have played Arizona St and Louisiana Tech so far, but they have to figure out a way to get some stops this season or it is going to be another trip to a lower-end bowl game.
Kansas likes to move fast but does not have enough weaponry to do so effectively. MEGALOCKS BIG 12 INSIDERS are still not sure who will start at QB for the Jayhawks. Their running game has been mediocre so far. If there was ever a game for the Texas Tech defense to get on track this is the one.
MEGA Mini-Bites
THEY ARE GONNA KILL EM GUY is unwrapping the $100 bills as we speak….But here is a stat to amaze your coworkers….Kansas has not lost to Texas Tech by more than 21 points in LUBBOCK and the last two years the scores were 30-20 and 34-21…..not saying just saying…..Our men on the street tell us that the two HCs are good friends so maybe Texas Tech does not drill them for 60 minutes….then again….this is Kliff Kingsbury…….Do not forget that Kansas gave up less than 400Y to Memphis who just put up 1,000 points on Saturday.
Summary
Godspeed to anyone who lays 28+ with a defense that is beyond description. And not in a good way.
Conclusion
Official play: None
Lean: Small taste on Kansas but would want 30+….wait as long as you can. And only if you have the kind of issues that make you crave action on this game.
