The Game
Alabama continues their tour of destruction as they take on the Kentucky Wildcats at home on Saturday. The Tide get a final tune-up before the heart of the SEC schedule gets going while the Wildcats are 2-2 and fresh off a big win vs South Carolina. That game probably saved their season in terms of possible bowl eligibility.
The Match-Up
Alabama offense vs Kentucky defense
This will probably be ugly. Despite the Wildcats’ performance on defense last week vs S Carolina, they are still home to one of the worst defenses in the FBS. Alabama does not get credit for how explosive they can be on offense. And they can also score at any time on defense or special teams. QB Jalen Hurts has been excellent making a lot of big throws while only throwing 1 INT. The running game is devastating, and while we are guessing that Damien Harris will not go this week, the RB unit is ridiculously loaded and should be able to steamroll the Kentucky front 7. Alabama is tied for 1st in the FBS in red zone offense and are also in the top 20 in time of possession. They should be able to keep the ball and also mix in some huge plays. Prognosis: Pain.
Kentucky offense vs Alabama defense
Kentucky seems to have found a decent option at QB in Stephen Johnson. They do have quite a decent offense. The problem of course is that Alabama has been lights out on defense (other than Ole Miss game on the road) yielding just 16 (!) points combined in their other three games. Kentucky has enough juice to score a TD at some point but it is hard to see them getting past 10. There is a lot of pride on the Alabama defense and keep in mind that the back-ups are still really good.
MEGA Mini-Bites
Kentucky is 2-36-1 all time SU vs Alabama and 0-9 on the road….I guess that means no Upset Alert…Alabama cannot be caught looking ahead to the tough games ahead….Hogs…Vols…Aggies.
Summary
This is a game you probably want to avoid. Kentucky will likely manage to get a score or two, so the question becomes, does Alabama get 50+ ? They rarely do it – but this Wildcat defense is special. Not interested.
