Toledo at BYU – Preview and Prediction
BYU 4 TOLEDO (52)
Implied Projected Score: BYU 28 Toledo 24
MEGALOCKS LINE – BYU 4
The Game
It’s not as good as full-on MACtion, but Toledo will represent the MAC in a Friday night tilt against BYU. The Rockets make a rare trip out west and will put their undefeated (3-0) record on the line against a battle-tested and hungry Cougars team. BYU has played four tough opponents and sits at 1-3 in their first season under HC Kalani Sitake.
The Match-Up
BYU vs Toledo defense
The Cougars finally managed to get a little bit of offense going last week vs West Virginia, but overall, they have really struggled getting explosive plays and moving the ball consistently. QB Taysom Hill has 4 TD vs 7 INT and is averaging less than 6 yards per attempt. They have a decent group of WRs but nobody has emerged as a true #1 deep threat. Jamaal Williams has over 400 yards rushing and allows BYU to be patient. BYU is #121 in passing efficiency. Toledo is #8 in pass efficiency defense (taking on a soft schedule, but still…). If BYU does not find a way to create some big plays in the passing game they will struggle to win this game. The Rockets D is currently ranked #7 playing the #162 ranked schedule.
Toledo offense vs BYU defense
Ladies and gentlemen. Meet the most efficient passer in college football. And quite possibly, the most underrated OL in college football. Toledo has played Ark St, Maine and Fresno St. Fine. But QB Logan Woodside has looked fantastic and their excellent running game has picked up where they left off last season. Check this out. Toledo gave up FIVE sacks all of last season and have allowed ZERO so far in 2016. That is bad news for a BYU defense who is struggling to get to the QB. BYU has allowed back to back 300Y passing games and will need to be better this week.
MEGA Mini-Bites
BYU has won 53 of their last 62 home games….The urgency should be there this week because they have a tough schedule ahead…..6 wins for bowl eligibility is not a given…..Toledo is 10-1 ATS L11 away games…..BYU may want to cover Toledo WR Cody Thompson who is averaging over 30 yards per reception.
Summary
This line is very sharp. We thought BYU might be laying a TD but Toledo is getting the respect they deserve. Not much wiggle room. Both defenses are pretty good.
