The Game
Your undefeated Washington Huskies bring their 6-0 record into a home date with Oregon St fresh off a bye week. For those keeping score at home, the Huskies won their last two games against Stanford and Oregon by a combined score of 114-27. The Beavers have been playing some improved football this season and have a win and a 5-point loss to Utah in their past two contests. Oregon St has some major injury concerns that are worth noting. Let’s get to it !
The Match-Up
Washington offense vs Oregon St defense
Washington has been one of the most impressive teams in college football this season. On offense, they are very balanced with a solid running game (#2 PAC 12) and the most efficient QB in the FBS in Jake Browning. Oregon St has done very well defending the pass this season but have been weak against the run. Last week they allowed Utah’s Joe Williams to roll for 179 yards and the Huskies will be able to put up big numbers on the ground. That will open up the passing game for Washington and they are a lot more dangerous throwing the football than the Utes. Oregon St has only given up 4 TD passes all season so Browning will have to stay sharp.
Oregon St offense vs Washington defense
Long-time MEGALOCKS SUPER PLATINUM subscribers know that we try to avoid placing too much emphasis on injuries. However, this week it must be noted that Oregon St is down to their 3rd QB (Marcus McMaryion) and will be without their leading rusher and best offensive player RB Ryan Nall (listed as doubtful). MEGALOCKS OREGON ST INSIDERS tell us that it makes the most sense for him to heal up for their homecoming game at home vs Washington St next week. To be fair, Oregon St did a great job holding together last week when they lost Nall AND their top 2 QBs and still snagged the cover, but Washington is one of the best teams in college football.
The Huskies defense has been really good. They are ranked #18 in the FBS and have been solid vs the run and the pass. They have also been really efficient on 3rd downs. If Oregon St needed more bad news, Washington excels at PENETRATION as they lead the PAC 12 in sacks per game and TFL per game. Prognosis: Pain.
MEGA-MAZEMENT !
The last three meetings between these two teams have been Husky wins by scores of 52-7…37-13…69-27…..QB Jake Browning has 23 TD passes vs 2 INT….For real, yo.
Summary
This seems like the toughest spot possible for Oregon St. The most likely scenario is a nasty beating which sets us up for possible plays on the Beavers in the final few weeks of the season if/when they get healthy. QB Garretson is out for at least the remainder of the regular season and we need to see how the QB play looks starting this week.
Conclusion
Official play: None
Lean: Under any number 54 or better. Oregon St will not do much to help the total but the Huskies have shown they can put up points. Small potatoes only. May revisit later in the week.
