Georgia Bulldogs 2022 College Football Preview
August 9, 2022
2021 Recap
Record – 14-1
ATS – 10-5
Yes, guy.
Ladies and Gents, your college football champion, Georgia Bulldogs!
The Dawgs started the campaign with a SNOT BUBBLER victory over Clemson (10-3) and then essentially coasted for the next 11 (!) weeks. ROLL TIDE pulled the upset in the SEC Championship Game by beating Georgia by a score of 41-24, but as we often say around these parts, REVENGE is a dish best served COLD. In this case, Georgia took care of business in the big game and handed ROLL TIDE a 33-18 defeat.
Now the hunter becomes the hunted. Does Georgia have the talent to hit BACK-to-BACK JACKS?
Georgia Bulldogs 2022 Outlook
OFFENSE
The Bulldogs did their typical damage on the ground LY (191 YPG, #6 SEC) but they were surprisingly effective thru the air (252 YPG, #7 SEC) thanks to the crafty play of QB Stetson Bennett (29-7 TD to INT, 259 rush). Bennett is surrounded with dangerous weaponry as the Dawgs bring back two of their top-three WRs as well as all-Universe TE Brock Bowers (885, 15.8, 13 TD), and if that wasn’t enough, they hope to get a major contribution from former LSU TE Arik Gilbert who also happens to be an athletic impossibility. He just needs to get his head on straight. Georgia loses their top-two RBs but have a stable of talented, albeit unproven, running backs. They’ll be running behind an offensive line that should be one of the best in the SEC despite losing a pair of doods to the NFL draft. Yup, this is still a dangerous bunch.
DEFENSE
That was special. There’s no other way to say it. The Georgia defense was incredible last season as they allowed just 10 PPG (#1 FBS), 269 YPG (#2), 79 YPG on the ground (#2), all whilst sacking opposing QBs 49 times (#4). You KNOW these guys will be good on defense this year but it’s impossible to know HOW good they’ll be given the departure of nine (!!) NFL DCs from the stop unit. It’ll be particularly challenging to replace all-UNIVERSE NT Jordan Davis who was literally a yuuuge part of the run defense. Three returning starters will blend with a ton of talented youngsters and it’s anyone’s guess how quickly Kirby Smart and friends can make this look like a top-notch SEC defense. The DL loses three starters to the NFL and is especially in need of the FRESH FISH growing up quickly. It’s truly rare to see a defense loaded with this many highly-recruited players, but they’ll have to prove it on the field. Also note that DC Dan Lanning is off to Oregon.
SPECIAL TEAMS
The Bulldogs return their primary KR and PR, as well as PK Jack Podlesny who hit 22-27 FG attempts in 2021. They’ll need to introduce a new punter.
Schedule Analysis
Overall – The Dawgs will have to STRAP IT ON right off the bat as they battle the Oregon Ducks in the season opener. We’re happy to report that they get a soft draw from the West (Auburn, Miss St) and they only play four true road games.
Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Nothing heinous is noted.
Season Win Total

Over 10.5 -215
Under 10.5 +175
MEGALOCKS says:
Lean: Over
It’s hard to imagine these guys losing two regular season games. If you like the “over” shop around and get the best price that you can.
MEGAmazing Tidbits
Georgia HC Kirby Smart is an impressive 17-6 ATS in the role of road favorite (74%) but he’s struggled mightily when being booked as a home favorite (13-20, 39%).
MEGALOCKS Outlook:
Here we go!
The Bulldogs have done their best to reload the roster but it remains to be seen if all the new pieces, particularly on defense, can mold quickly into a National Championship contender. They’re one of the two or three most talented teams in the nation but we’ll likely shop elsewhere in the futures market.
