The Game

It’s time!

The National Champions have a legit test in their first game as they take on the Oregon Ducks on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs took care of Clemson in a 10-3 SNOT BUBBLER in the 2021 season opener and they’ll try and make it two consecutive yuuuuge wins in LIDLIFTERS. Former Georgia DC Dan Lanning is the new HC with the Ducks and it’ll be interesting to see how his team fares against one of the elites of the college football world.

The Details

Georgia -17 Oregon (53)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Georgia -16

MEGALOCKS market consensus – Georgia -14.4

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Georgia 35 Oregon 18

The Match-Up:

Georgia offense vs Oregon defense

The recipe should be pretty simple. Pound the run game, yo. Oregon showed no ability to stop the ground game in late season losses to Utah (2) and Oklahoma when they allowed 208,191,322 yards. They return seven starters on this side of the football and might eventually be a bit better with a defensive-minded HC but there’s no way of knowing at this point. The Dawgs have a deep set of RBs and an excellent offensive line (RUH ROH) and QB Stetson Bennett should be able to abuse the defense with an elite TE group and underrated set of WRs.

Oregon offense vs Georgia defense

As many of us are now aware, Bo Nix season is now in FULL EFFECT in Eugene, Oregon. Nix is a crafty veteran with great mobility but he isn’t a very polished passer (career 39-16 TD to INT, just 6.9 yards per attempt). The THROW GAME weapons are unproven and note that they lose star RB Travis Dye who rushed for over 1,200 yards LY whilst catching 46 balls out of the backfield in his spare time. The only way Oregon has a shot to score enough points to make this interesting is if the reloaded Georgia defense isn’t buttoned up due to losing so much talent to the NFL (3 returning starters). Time will tell.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

Georgia was ridiculously good on D last year and only allowed 20+ points in one game….that was during the SEC Championship blowout loss to ROLL TIDE….Recall that this BAD BOY will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Summary

It’s gonna be a long afternoon for Oregon if they can’t get the run going, and despite all the new faces on defense for Georgia, we expect them to be very stout up front. We don’t expect that Oregon will have many answers for what Georgia does on offense, but maybe they’re a bit rusty? Would like the Dawgs a lot more at -14 but still think they can cover this number.

Conclusion

Lean – Georgia -17
