2015 Recap

That makes nine losing seasons out of the last ten. They won ten games in 2010 and won the MAC Title (!), but other than that fun ride, it has been a really tough stretch for the Redhawks. They came around at the end of last season winning two of their last three games, and maybe more importantly, showed improvement on offense and on defense.

2016 Preview

OFFENSE

Miami was very young last season and should show some improvement across the board this season. QB Billy Bahl is expected to be the starter, and while he did throw 13 interceptions in his freshman campaign, he will be better in 2016 particularly with an experienced receiving corps to rely upon.

There are 10 returning starters overall on offense with essentially all the 2015 rushing and receiving production back for another round. One interesting tidbit is that their top 4 receivers averaged over 15 yards a catch last year and that makes us believe the offense has the potential to be a lot more explosive this season. The offensive line should help that happen as they have four starters returning in 2016.

DEFENSE

The Redhawks improved in both seasons under Chuck Martin and will probably take another small step forward this year. They have some talented players scattered throughout the defense even though they lost their two leading tacklers from last season.

JUGGERNAUT ALERT – Senior DE JT Jones is a force. Last year he had 10 sacks, 14.5 total TFL and a dozen QB hurries. That sack total ranked him in the top dozen players in the FBS in sacks per game.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Stop us if you have heard this before. A MAC team with a questionable special teams unit. Miami will be starting fresh at PK and punter. The return game was mediocre last year and hopefully someone can emerge in 2016.

MEGALOCKS ATS Value Rating (10)          7.0

MEGALOCKS says:

The Redhawks have road dates with Iowa and Cincinnati which will be tough games, but when we look at the schedule in its totality, it is not impossible to see five or dare we say six wins ?

Overall, we give the REDHAWKS a 7.0 ATS Value Rating (Good) this season. The offense should be a lot better. The defense should be decent. Things are pointing up. Of course, we still are talking about “potential” with the offense, and sometimes that potential does not pan out. HC Chuck Martin has a nice 14-9-1 ATS record (61%) so far with Miami and we feel confident that he will lead them to another bread-winning season against the point spread.
