Mississippi Rebels 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 5-5

ATS – 4-6

The Rebels played in a ton of shootouts last year and prevailed about…..well half the time. They scored 35 on the Gators and 48 (!) on ROLL TIDE and won three of their final four regular season games. They also took down Indiana in the Outback Bowl and have to feel good about themselves heading into year two under HC Lane Kiffin.

Mississippi Rebels 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The offense moved like a TREMENDOUS MACHINE throughout the 2020 plandemic season and they finished the year rated #3 in the FBS in total offense (556 YPG) (!) whilst being very well balanced (#26 rush, #7 pass). Star QB Matt Corral is back, and while he threw a few too many picks (29-14 TD to INT) he proved to be a great fit for the offense (71%, 506 rush). Corral won’t be happy to know that his top-two targets including NFL-bound Elijah Moore (1,193, 8 TD) are gone but the cupboard is pretty well-stocked. WR Dontario Drummond had a fine 2020 (16.7, 7 TD) and WR Braylon Sanders averaged an impossible 25 YPC. The 1-2 RB combo of Jerrion Ealy and SNOOP Conner booked a combined 17 TDs on the ground LY. Four starters return up front and they’re in year two of the LANE TRAIN’S system. Expect points, yo.

DEFENSE

Defense was a complete afterthought a season ago as the Rebels allowed a ghastly 38 PPG (dead last SEC) and 519 YPG (yup, dead last). The Rebels add a lot of doods via the transfer portal and the recruiting has been good so there’s hope for improvement despite the loss of leading tackler LB Jacquez Jones. The DL has a lot of 300-pounders and LB/DE Sam Williams is a good one (4 sacks, 8 TFL LY). LB Lakia Henry is a solid vet and bagging Chance Campbell from Maryland will help the group. They’re more experienced on the back end but we’re not convinced they have the MINERALS to do much better defending the pass this year.

SPECIAL TEAMS

It’s hit and miss. KR Jerrion Ealy averaged 28.9 yards on KR and took one to the HIZZY BIZZY JIZZY in 2020 and P Mac Brown was solid. They need to (thankfully) find a new PK.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – The non-conference schedule isn’t a cakewalk but they definitely have the license to get three or four wins. The draw from the SEC East is TASTY (Vandy, Vols) and they only have one road game in November.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Nothing overly-spooky is noted.

Season Win Total

Per BetOnline August 11

Over 7.5 -130

Under 7.5 +110

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

That’s a sharp number, yo. We’d sprinkle a bit on the ‘over’ if we could find a ‘7’. <cranks up Google machine>

MEGAmazing Tidbits

Lane Kiffin has exceptional college football HOTTIE RADAR as he went from HC gigs at USC to Boca Raton to Oxford.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

GET CHO POPCONE.

The offense is absolutely loaded and that alone makes them MUST WATCH TV. The defense should also be a lot better this year and that makes them a serious SURPRISE PACKAGE in the SEC.
