MLB tidbits – Tuesday, May 14
Some quick thoughts on today’s MLB card. A couple of sentences detailing some of the stuff we considered when looking for investment opportunities.

Cubs -104 Reds -104
A no-play at this number and the line has dropped appropriately in our opinion (into the no-value zone)….Roark has been good this year and the Reds 5-3 in his starts….NOTE….small sample but Hendricks has been CY YOUNG at home and a DONKEY on the road (8.78 ERA….28 hits in 13 IP)….Votto has decent BVP….Bryant likewise for the Cubs…..Would NOT play your boy Hendrixx in DFS and Reds player props may have good value.
Milwaukee at Philadelphia (7:05 pm)
Brewers -118 Phillies +109
Looking at the Phillies in this spot based on value….Woodruff has been good for Milwaukee (3 str starts 1 ER, 54-12 K to BB) but Eickhoff has been LIGHTS OUT last three outings…..20 IP and 1 ER (!)….He faces the Brewers but has not allowed a DONG all year…..Harper is ice cold, yo.
New York at Washington (7:05 pm)
Mets -141 Nationals +130
Can’t back your boy Hellickson who has been ok but is still just-a-guy (JAG)….Noah going for the Mets and even tho we may all recall his recent great shutout outing….Keep in mind that despite having great hair he has an ERA over 5…..Nats starters hitting .307 off NS (23/75)…Robles has a pair of DONGS in 4 (!) AB….Cano has fine BVP vs JH.
Colorado at Boston (7:10 pm)
Red Saaax -241 Rockies +220
Sale is on FIRE wikkkkid haaaard right now and has struck out 42 batters in his last 4 starts and allowed just 5 ER….Freeland has been a turd…..Rockies can mash but it’s Baaaatan or nothing…You are paying a tax line s/b closer to -200.
Houston at Detroit (7:10 pm)
Astros -209 Tigers +191
Astros are just HAMMERING baseballs right now….We heard last night on ESPN (may have heard it wrong) that the Astros were the first team in 100 years (or ever) to have the leadoff and #2 hitter DOUBLE DONG in the same game….And they are getting DINGERS from everyone including from scrubs like Diaz and Marisnick…..Something called Carpenter going for Los Tigres….Lean to Astros even at this crazy price….We have it around -250…..Miley is very underrated.
Tampa Bay at Miami (7:10 pm)
Rays -141 Marlins +132
We love our boy Caleb Smith and have loved watching him pitch this season for the Marlins….26 hits allowed in 42 IP (!) and a wicked 56-12 K to BB ratio….Rays SP Morton has only had one start where he allowed more than 2 ER…..There is an under play in here somewhere but we no likey likey unders in MLB…….Line is sharp…..We had it around -135.
Toronto at San Francisco (9:45 pm)
Giants -120 Jays +111
Jays are becoming WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE (crappy, rebuilding team with a good future) and the Giants are just trash…..Thornton is JAG and Vincent is an opener….No read on this game.
St Louis at Atlanta (7:20 pm)
Cardinals -120 Braves +111
Lean to the Cards in this spot…..Foltyneioisueaaouwicz has been a TRAIN WRECK for the Braves so far….Flaherty only one QS L5 outings….Have a lot of interest in a Cards TT F5 or full game…..Wong is 5/7 off MF with a DINGER….Freeman 3/3 off JF.
Los Angeles at Minnesota (7:40 pm)
Twins -133 Angels +123
Line looks perfect….Angels playing better going with an opener….Gibson is underrated but there are some nasty LH bats (+ Trout) to deal with…..We had it lined at -125……Trout and Lucroy have good BVP.
Texas at Kansas City (8:15 pm)
Royals -137 Rangers +126
Our fav play is some kind of sweet Royals action most likely a team total…..Shelby Miller is GOD AWFUL (7.48 ERA, 21 BB just 19 K)….Duffy has pitched well in all 3 starts.
Pittsburgh at Arizona (9:40 pm)
Snakes -154 Pirates +142
We have the game lined at -150 so don’t see much value…..Weaver has been good his last 2 starts including one at Coors…..Musgrove got PASTED last 2 outings…..Snakes starters just 8/39 off JM….Pirates starters .274 (17/62) off LW.
San Diego at Los Angeles (10:10 pm)
Dodgers -149 Padres +138
Very sharp price….Kershaw has looked good and the LAD are 5-0 in his starts and REALLY tough to beat at home…..Paddack is an emerging STUD (hello?) and has allowed just 18 hits in 40 IP…..We had it lined at -140/-150 so line looks right but would not call anyone a donkey for packing the Friars.
Oakland at Seattle (10:10 pm)
As -115 Mariners +107
Ms saved us from having our TEETH KICKED IN yesterday with a miracle comeback…..Don’t really get this line side with Seattle….Leake has allowed 11 DONGS but has been pretty good all season which is close to INCONCEIVABLE…..Anderson is a LHP JAG and the Ms can rake….Chapman and Piscotty have good BVP.
