MLB tidbits – Wednesday, April 24

Some quick thoughts on today’s MLB card. A couple of sentences detailing some of the stuff we considered.

Lines per Pinnacle at time when notes posted.

Hopefully this helps your handicapping. We always post rationale with our picks with the goal of helping people graduate from being betting zombies. Read. Consider. Make a wagering decision. GL and enjoy the games!

Kansas City at Tampa Bay (1:10 pm)

Tampa Bay -231 Kansas City +210

Snell back after a minor toe debacle….In his last three starts the stats have been ludicrous….19 IP…1 ER and 33K…..KC hitting just .191 off lefties (230 AB) and it doesn’t get much more difficult than this…..Junis has just one QS, the Royals have lost 5 straight and boast a crappy bullpen….Only thing holding us back is the price we (almost) never go over -200…..Lean to the RL at -117 here but have not got down yet as we go to press…..Likely pass for us.

Miami at Cleveland (1:10 pm)

Cleveland -154 Miami +142

Alcantara on the bump for Miami and he has allowed 11 ER in his last two starts….On the plus side he has not allowed a DONG yet this season and the Indians are still struggling at the plate….Tribe have lost three straight and Rodriguez is making just his second start…..Price feels a bit cheap all things considered so will take a taste of some sweet Cleveland action a day after getting beat by these same wacky Marlins.

Milwaukee at St Louis (1:15 pm)

St Louis -126 Milwaukee +116

We have the fair line at -125 so will take a pass. Brewers are sliding a bit recently (3-7 L10) and the Cards are 9-3 at home…..We don’t trust either SP….Chacin has only allowed >3 ER in one start but has allowed five DONGS…..Wainright is JUST A GUY (JAG) at this point and is coming off a bad start. Slightest of leanage to the over but gonna pass on this game.

Washington at Colorado (3:10 pm)

Colorado -159 Washington +147

Slight leanage to Rockies but the asking price is too high….Marquez is a very good SP but keep in mind that he road stats look a ton better than his home splits albeit in an extremely small sample size….2 starts at home just 10 IP 17 hits allowed and just 7K……Rockies just 4-7 at home…..Coors totals are on kiddie lock for us have no idea if the game goes 17-12 or 5-2.

Texas at Oakland (3:37 pm)

Oakland -154 Texas +142

Bullpen game for the Rangers with something called a Dowdy on the mound to start the game….Brooks is JAG for the Athletics with an ERA over 5 and 2 QS in four appearances so far….Both teams look to be in a good hitting spot and decent weather in Oakland…..Will be on the F5 ov either 5 or 4.5 with extra joooooce.

Seattle at San Diego (3:40 pm)

San Diego -169 Seattle +155

Big SP and bullpen edge for the Padres but SP Paddack is still being priced at Cy Young levels…..He has only allowed 9 hits in 20IP but only has one QS as San Diego is giving him time to stretch out…..Seattle goes without a DH again and are just 3-7L10 after their LAVA-HOT start…..Padres just 6-8 at home and feature a dismal (-14) run differential. Taking a pass.

San Francisco at Toronto (4:07 pm)

San Francisco -120 Toronto +111

Dung Fest to end the afternoon card BUT having said that the Jays bats are coming around and the Giants (while still sucking) have sucked a lot less than the suckage we expected…..Jays are just 4-7 at home and Buchholz got roughed up last start in Minnesota….Pomeranz is decent but throws too many pitches per inning and almost never gets to the 6th inning…..Both teams feature top-5 WHIP bullpens……Total coin toss not sure why the hell the Giants are favored…Little bit of value with the blue birds but gonna take a pass.

Atlanta at Cincinnati (6:40 pm)

Atlanta -123 Cincinnati +113

Line looks about right according to our National League INSIDERS….Braves are the better team and have the SP edge with Soroka taking the mound for the 2nd time…..The problem is that they are bumbling a bit (4-6 L10) and have a relatively disgusting pen (#26 WHIP)…..Reds have yet to get hot but they are over .500 at home. Tough call and will sit this one out.

Chicago White Sox at Baltimore (7:05 pm)

Baltimore -115 Chicago +106

Feels like a good spot to take a swing at some sweet F5 over action…..Santana has allowed 5 DONGS in 8.2 IP and Means (while off to a decent start) is definitely susceptible to a bit of carnage from the power in the Sox lineup.

Arizona at Pittsburgh (7:05 pm)

Pittsburgh -121 Arizona +112

The D-Backs have been scrappy in this series and the we will be off the Buccos until they face someone other than the SNAKES…..Having said that….keep in mind that SP Lyles has been DEALING this season for the Pirates (17 IP 1 ER 18 K 0.53 ERA). Leanage to Pittsburgh but the SNAKES have been a world of trouble in this series so far. Taking a seat.

Detroit at Boston (7:10 pm)

Boston -210 Detroit +192

Will today be the day that the greatest team of all-time (outside of the Tampa Bay Lightning) figure out how to beat the Detroit Tigers? They have soooo much more talent but we can’t recommend the Sox at this price, particularly when they feature a horrid (-43) run differential on the season. Pass.

Philadelphia at New York Mets (7:10 pm)

Philadelphia -134 New York Mets +124

Both teams are 4-6 L10 and both (!) teams have a negative run differential on the season….Mets are more reliable right now given that the Phillies have lost three straight and have been stttttrrrrugggggling more than you would think at the plate BUT…..Velasquez has allowed 2 ER or less in each of his last 3 starts and Vargas is a turd…..Lean Phillies but line has moved up big time and into the “no-value zone”. The good news is that we feel a F5 over wager is worth the effort especially if you can get a 4.5 with extra jooooce. 5 would be acceptable.

Minnesota at Houston (8:10 pm)

Houston -235 Minnesota +214

Unplayable game in our view. Something called a Kohl Stewart is getting the spot start vs Justin Verlander. The Twins have enough power and talent to keep this close but there is no way of knowing what to expect from Stewart. Pass.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs (8:05pm)

Los Angeles -118 Chicago +109

Really tough game to call…..Hamels has been excellent so far with 3 straight QS (21 IP 3 ER and ZERO walks wtf) but we do trust the Dodgers more….Buehler has been underwhelming so far but has seen his pitch count increase in every start (66 to 92 last out). Tough read for us and will take a seat.

New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels (10:07 pm)

New York -109 Los Angeles +101

Would love to take another stab with the Yankees but have no idea what to make of this pitching match-up…….89 year-old CC vs something called Pena…..Yankees have been rolling despite approximately 89% of their team being injured……Slight lean to NY but putting our wallet away for this tilt.
