2025 Recap

Record – 4-8

ATS – 5-7

The Cardinal tried something different last year. After finishing with 3-9 records for four consecutive seasons, they thought, “Hey, let’s mix it up a bit, yo.” And thus, the fans were treated to a 4-8 spectacle. Thankfully, there were a few genuine bright spots as they SHOCKED THE WORLD and upset Florida St, and they mopped the floor with their hated rivals from Berkeley.

Former Stanford QB and new HC Tavita Pritchard gets his first gig as head coach and has a lot of work to do.

Stanford Cardinal 2026 Outlook

OFFENSE

2025 By The Numbers (ACC):

  • Scoring: 18.8 PPG (#17 ACC, dead last)
  • Total Offense: 306.5 YPG (#16 ACC)
  • Rushing: 84.5 YPG (#16 ACC)
  • Passing: 222.0 YPG (#13 ACC)
  • Sacks Allowed: 41 (#16 ACC)

If you got violently ill recently watching the trailer for The Odyssey, that’s exactly how Stanford fans felt last season watching that offense struggle in quicksand for twelve games.

The QB situation looks murky heading into 2026 as Stanford will be relying upon a pair of reclamation projects in Davis Warren (Michigan), who missed 2025 due to injury, and Dylan Rizk, who last saw action with UCF in 2024. The QB play can’t possibly be as bad as last season, but don’t set the improvement bar too high.

We like the situation at RB as the room has good depth and they retain two of their top-three from last season, including RB1 Micah Ford (643, 4 TD). Sedrick Irvin also has good size, and Tuna “Chicken of the Sea” Altahir is an absolute load (6-0, 230). The top-three targets need to be replaced, including deadly TE Sam Roush (545, 2 TD), but WR Caden High had a decent 2025 campaign (414, TD) and should be a reliable producer. Ivy League transfer WR Nico Brown looks like a legit SURPRISE PACKAGE as he booked a 1,000-yard season with Yale last year and should be more than ready to tackle the ACC. And don’t sleep on redshirt freshman JonAnthony Hall, who only played in one game last season due to injury. We’re confident that TE Benji Blackburn can make an impact in the THROW GAME.

The offensive line could very easily be the backbone of the offense, which sounds nuts after a disastrous 2025 season. They’re an experienced group that’s got notable size across the board, and they’re anchored by an excellent LT in Niki Prongos (6-7, 315).

DEFENSE

2025 By The Numbers (ACC):

  • Scoring: 29.2 PPG (#13 ACC)
  • Total Defense: 408.2 YPG (#13 ACC)
  • Rushing Defense: 119.3 YPG (#7 ACC)
  • Passing Defense: 288.9 YPG (#17 ACC)
  • Sacks: 23 (#12 ACC)

The defense wasn’t a complete disaster last year, particularly against the run, although it’s worth noting that teams had a BLAST throwing the ball on that disgusting secondary. There are quite a few familiar faces back for duty, including their top-four tacklers, so the Cardinal are not without hope heading into 2026.

We like the look of the defensive line as the Cardinal retain both starters on the outside in Ernest Cooper and Tevarua Tafiti, who combined for 12 TFL and 6 QBH last year — not elite numbers, but a good place to start. Overall, the DL has decent size and experience, but generating consistent pressure will be a key area of focus after a down year in that regard in 2025.

Linebacker Matt Rose is the clear leader of the stop unit and the most experienced player in the middle layer, coming off a very productive season in which he led the team in tackles by a wide margin (106, 8 TFL). Jahsiah Galvan (#3 tackles) also returns, and overall the LB corps has good depth and experience. The secondary play was atrocious last year and they only picked off three (!) passes (#131 FBS). They’ll be improved on the back end this season as there are some good players to rely upon, including veteran safety Scotty Edwards (#2 tackles), safety Jay Green (#4 tackles, 8 PBU), and NB Leroy Bryant (Washington).

SPECIAL TEAMS

Stanford boasts excellent continuity, but we should point out that they were ranked #104 in the 2025 Phil Steele special teams rankings. They could use a bit more spice in the return game, and PK Emmet Kenney was just 3/5 on FG attempts from 40+ yards last year (16/21 overall).

Schedule Analysis

Overall – Stanford has a realistic shot to go 2-1 in non-conference play (Hawaii, Elon), and don’t even think about winning at Notre Dame. The list of ACC assignments is fair as while they don’t have to face Clemson, they also miss the opportunity to play a couple of likely bottom-feeders (Boston College, Syracuse). They open the conference schedule in style on September 4th when they host YOUR Miami Hurricanes.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – at Lua-Vuh (Oct 31)

It’s always tough to play the Cardinals in their home stadium and this will be the 7th consecutive week that Stanford will be hitting the gridiron, with a welcome bye week up next. Long trip for a likely spanking.

Season Win Total

Market consensus – July 5

Over 3.5 -125

Under 3.5 -105

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Over

There are five or six winnable games on the schedule, including home tests vs Hawaii and Elon.

Note – Our official list of season win total investments will be posted in the blog section of the website.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

Technically, Stanford’s official mascot is the Cardinal (the color), not the Tree. The Tree is actually the mascot of the Stanford Band — a student-run “chaos brigade” famous for its irreverent and unpredictable performances. The Tree is widely considered the only mascot in America that can (and has) been disciplined for “general unruliness.” A towering tornado of TOMFOOLERY, bay-bee.

Stanford is an impossibly bad 11-26 ATS (30%) as a road underdog over the L10Y. Take note, DEGENERATE Nation.

MEGALOCKS Forecast:

It’s been a minute since Stanford had a winning record — in fact, the last time that happened was back during the 2020 PLANDEMIC season when they went 4–2.

This is a very inexperienced coaching staff, but the roster has some legit pieces sprinkled liberally throughout. The defense has the potential to give teams some trouble, but the QB situation is a MASSIVE question mark. There are too many good teams on the schedule to think about a winning record, but this looks like a squad that can pick up four, or even five wins.

And as the faithful like to shout towards their best pals at Cal — “Give ’em the AXE!”
