Texas A&M Aggies 2021 College Football Preview

Created August 7, 2021

2020 Recap

Record – 9-1

ATS – 6-4

Yes, guy.

The Aggies had a great season and finished the campaign with a single loss, and that was to the eventual champs ROLL TIDE. There were a few close calls but for the most part they just bullied their opponents into submission and walked off the field with a win. The year ended in fine fashion when they beat a very good and potent UNC squad quite handily in the Orange Bowl (W 41-27). What can they do for an encore in 2021?

Texas A&M Aggies 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The offense was balanced and efficient LY as they ended the year #27 in the FBS in rushing offense and #34 in passing efficiency behind their excellent QB Kellen Mond (19-3 TD to INT, 4 rush TD) who’s off to the NFL (Vikings). Mond moves on and one of the most interesting storylines in the SEC is how new starting QB Haynes King will fare as the starting QB. He’s a highly-regarded specimen with excellent mobility so the odds are that Jimbo will have him performing at a high level. There are a lot of excellent weapons to help the young QB including ALL-MEGALOCKS TEAM member RB Isaiah Spiller who rushed for over 1,000Y in 2020 whilst catching 20 passes in his spare time. They also have the multi-talented Ainias Smith in the mix (293 rush, 564 receiving led team) as well as star TE Jalen Wydermyer (506, 6 TD). The primary concern (including QB) might be an OL that returns just one starter and note that they allowed just 7 (!) sacks in 2020. The good news is that the lone returning man up front is 1st Team AA Kenyon Green, and they also bagged Tennessee transfer Jahmir Johnson from the transfer portal.

DEFENSE

The Aggies were ROCK SOLID a season ago and finished with the #9 defense in the country. They were awesome vs the run and allowed a measly 92 YPG (#2 FBS). That marked the 2nd time in the last three seasons that Texas A&M had allowed fewer than 100 YPG vs opposing rushing attacks. Nine of their top-10 tacklers return for battle but they’ll need to replace leading tackler and team leader LB Buddy Johnson (#1 TFL as well). The DL should be RIDICULOUS as they have a ton of size inside as well as devastating DEs in Michael Clemons and DeMarvin Leal (combined 11.5 TFL LY). #2 tackler Aaron Hansford leads a good LB unit and every starter returns on the back end including their excellent safety Leon O’Neal. The CBs have nice size and are very talented.

SPECIAL TEAMS

All the key components are back in 2021 including PK Seth Small who hit 11/13 FGA LY. They could use some additional spice at KR and PR.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – The non-conference slate will be a CAKEWALK (Kent St, Buffs, Lobos, Prairie View) and they get a nice draw out of the SEC East (Missouri, South Cackalacky). The GAME OF ALL GAMES happens on October 9th when they get ROLL TIDE at home.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Nothing heinous noted.

Season Win Total

Per 5Dimes August 7

Over 9.5 +115

Under 9.5 -135

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Over.

As crazy as it sounds, they could legit win 11 games. Just kidding. Not really.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

JIMBO needs credit, yo. He has a career record of 111-33 (!) and is 26-10 at Texas A&M. That time includes “rebuilding” an average roster in College Station.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

WHOA NELLIE. Strap up bitches. These guys are legit threats to win the SEC and they are loaded on both sides of the football. And they get ROLL TIDE at home. There’s an almost complete unknown at QB but it’s become clear over the past number of years that inexperienced signal callers can dominate if they’re surrounded by elite talent. SURPRISE PACKAGE to win it all in 2021.
