Tiger Woods. Have the odds gone crazy?
Now THAT was fun. We still have no idea what a “Valspar” is, but Tiger Woods almost SHOCKED the WORLD with a fine performance in the Valspar Championship. It was vintage Tiger on the 17th hole when he drained a long birdie putt to pull within a stroke of the lead, but his bid for victory came up a bit short on the 18th hole. Before we get to what this performance may or may not mean from a wagering perspective, here are some facts that our SMOKING HOT INTERNS dug up.
The ratings on Saturday were the best 3rd round ratings for any tournament on any network since 2006.
It’s hard to believe, but that was only the 2nd win for Paul Casey on the PGA Tour. It was a fine effort and well deserved with a final round (-6). He is a good guy in our books.
Up next? The Arnold Palmer Invitational. Tiger has won the freaking thing 8 times. And that brings us to the KEY QUESTION. Does Tiger deserve to be an overwhelming favorite to win at around +600? He has not won a tournament since 2013.
Where is the value?
Tiger is starting to play well (only player in field with four under-par rounds at Valspar) and we are cheering for him to get a win. The PGA Tour is filled with great young players and adding a resurgent Tiger would be fantastic. Having said that, our strategy this week is going to be playing three or four rock solid players at generous odds. We cannot justify the +600 price tag on Tiger, especially when players like Day, Fleetwood, Rose, Fowler and Rory are listed at higher prices. And don’t get us started on the value in the 30-1 to 80-1 range. WHOA, NELLIE indeed.

Speaking of the Masters
Looking ahead to Augusta, Tiger is currently listed at the 3rd favorite. The value available to punters is comical. Stay tuned for our Masters hot takes. The last winner we picked? It might have been Doug Ford back in 1957.
