Week 12 Boxscore and Wagering Review!

Hey everyone.

Here’s the Week 12 Boxscore and Wagering review.

FBS vs FBS games only.

Let’s go!

Boxscore review:

ACC

Clemson 20, Louisville 19 — Oh, boy. LUA-VUH fans can’t be happy. They missed a pair (!!) of potential game-winning FGs in the final minutes, the second coming after Clemson’s long-snapper and punter did their best to give the Cardinals the win. LUA-VUH almost certainly should have won the game, but 10 penalties and a horrible FG kicking operation in the 4th quarter did them in. They booked a 385–308 yard advantage, but it wasn’t enough. The Cardinals are now DEED in the ACC race.

Notre Dame 37, Pittsburgh 15 — The Irish led 21–3 at the break and took it from there. 387–219 yard edge, and Notre Dame now appears to be a mortal lock to finish 10–2. Will that be good enough to make the CFP?

Miami 41, NC State 7 — YOUR Miami Hurricanes lay the smackdown, yo. The Canes led 24–CACK at the half and got off to a hot start for a change. Massive 581–143 yard advantage for Miami, who now needs to win out and get help for an ACC title game invite and/or CFP bid.

Georgia Tech 36, Boston College 34 — Team “Horseshoe up the Butt” wins another close one. Boston College fought tooth and nail to the very end, and actually had a 28–17 lead after the 3rd quarter, and a 34–33 advantage with four minutes left. 628–537 yard edge for the Yellow Jackets, who’ve got a YUUUGE game with Pitt up next.

Virginia 34, Duke 17 — Nice win for the Cavs! They went on the road and got out to a 31–3 (!) lead and never looked back. Virginia had a whopping 540–255 yard edge and remain tied atop the ACC standings.

Wake Forest 28, UNC 12 — Another fantastic game from Wake Forest, who smothered the struggling UNC offense. 414–257 yard advantage for the Demon Deacons, who move to 7–3! The Tar Heels (4–6) now need to win both of their remaining games to earn a bowl bid.

Florida St 34, Virginia Tech 14 — The Seminoles started slow and then gradually proved dominant. 431–363 yard advantage for Florida St, who were +2 in turnover margin.

American

Navy 41, USF 38 — Yes, guy. Navy jumped out to a quick lead and led the entire way! The 4th quarter was completely nuts as the teams traded punches (39 total points) and Navy emerged with an important win when the dust settled. 556–524 yard edge for South Florida, but Navy rolled for 338 yards on the ground (6.4 YPC) and got key contributions from both QBs. The Midshipmen can make the American Conference title game with a win over Memphis at the end of November.

UTSA 28, Charlotte 7 — Convincing win, and Charlotte was only able to score on a 4th quarter KR TD. 521–197 yard advantage for the Roadrunners, who need one more win to get to a bowl game. Charlotte drops to 1–9.

Tulsa 31, Oregon St 14 — Tulsa grabbed a 14–0 first quarter lead and never looked back. 446–310 yard edge for the Golden Hurricane. Oregon St has now lost to Tulsa and Sam Houston in back-to-back weeks, which isn’t awesome.

North Texas 53, UAB 24 — North Texas gets a blowout win and they’re in great shape in the conference standings! The Mean Green led 21–CACK after the first quarter and held serve from there. Note that it was a misleading final score, as UAB was slightly outgained 506–478 but were (-4) in turnover margin.

East Carolina 31, Memphis 27 — ARRRRR! The Pirates are also alive in this exciting and wide-open conference. They grabbed a 7–0 lead but chased the rest of the way until they took the lead for good thanks to a TD pass with a minute remaining. 457–474 yard edge for Memphis, and each team had one turnover in a very evenly played game.

Tulane 35, FAU 24 — The Green Wave got an important win, but the final was flattering. FAU booked a 472–403 yard advantage but turned it over four times (-3 margin). Tulane backers were treated to some nasty BACK DOOR ACTION, as they were laying +18 and the Owls got the money courtesy of a TD with under two minutes to play.

Big 12

Texas Tech 48, UCF 9 — The Red Raiders keep on rolling, bay-bee. They led 38–2 at the half in a complete bludgeoning. 499–230 yard edge for Tech.

BYU 44, TCU 13 — BYU bounces back in a big way off their loss to Texas Tech and humiliates the Horned Frogs. 447–298 yard advantage for BYU, and they held TCU to just 1/10 on 3rd down. The Cougars have a big game with Cincinnati up next.

Utah 55, Baylor 28 — The Utes are demolishing the opposition lately, but it may be too late for a push to the Big 12 Championship Game. The demolition on the scoreboard wasn’t fully reflected in the boxscore, as the Bears outgained (!) Utah 563–483, but were (-2) in turnover margin while allowing 380 yards (8.8 YPC!) on the ground.

Arizona 30, Cincinnati 24 — The Cats put together a 99-yard (!) TD drive in the 3rd quarter and a 75-yard TD drive in the final frame to earn the victory. Tough loss for the Bearcats and their chances in the Big 12. 475–344 yard edge for Arizona (!), who were also +2 in turnover margin.

Kansas St 14, Oklahoma St 6 — The Wildcats were sleepwalking, and Oklahoma St is playing better in the 2nd half of the season. Note that the Cowboys booked a 373–284 yard advantage, but turned it over five (!) times (-4 margin). Kansas St needs one more win to make a bowl game, but not sure it comes next week (Utah).

Arizona St 25, West Virginia 23 — West Virginia has been playing well over the last month or so, but they couldn’t get the win in Tempe. The Mountaineers actually had a 421–330 yard edge, and our boy Scotty Fox Jr threw for over 350 yards in the loss. The Mountaineers’ bowl hopes are officially DEED. Arizona St is mathematically alive in the Big 12, but their chances are realistically 0%.

Big Ten

Oregon 42, Minnesota 13 — The greatest team of all-time knocks over another TOMATO CAN. The Ducks led 28–6 at the half, and that was that. 500–210 yard edge for the Ducks, and the Gophers never had a prayer. Oregon has a YUUUGE battle with USC next week!

Ohio St 48, UCLA 10 — Yawn. Another blowout win. 440–222 yard advantage for the Buckeyes, who’ve got another TOMATO CAN up next (Rutgers). UCLA played with backup QB Luke Duncan.

Indiana 31, Wisconsin 7 — Indiana gets to 11–0! The Hoosiers had a 475–222 yard advantage and were a ridiculous 12/16 on 3rd down. Wisconsin’s leading passer wasn’t their punter this week, so that’s cool.

USC 26, Iowa 21 — The Trojans fell behind 21–7 but roared back in the 2nd half, shutting out the Hawkeyes. USC had a mild 360–320 yard edge in what was a fine performance from Iowa off their dramatic loss to Oregon. USC has a YUUUUGE game with Oregon next Saturday, and we can’t wait!

Michigan 24, Northwestern 22 — Very entertaining game at Wrigley Field! Northwestern was scrappy and benefited from FIVE Michigan turnovers (+5 margin), but Michigan won the game with a FG on the final play. Michigan looked good on offense when they weren’t puking all over themselves with turnovers, and booked a 496–245 yard edge.

Penn St 28, Michigan St 10 — Sparty started strong with a long TD run to go up 7–0, and that was it. Game effort from Penn St off the heartbreaking loss to Indiana, and note that this was their first (!) Big Ten win of the season. It was 14–10 heading into the final frame, but Penn St put it away with a pair of TDs. 367–229 yard advantage for the Nittany Lions, who played smothering defense.

Illinois 24, Maryland 6 — The classic Maryland late-season swoon continues. 397–293 yard edge for Illinois, who were 7/13 on 3rd down, while Maryland was just 3/12.

Washington 49, Purdue 13 — Blowout win for the Huskies, and Purdue can’t wait for the season to end. 506–267 yard edge for Washington, who played without a pair of stars in RB Jonah Coleman and WR Denzel Boston.-

Conference USA

Tennessee 42, New Mexico St 9 — The Aggies held their own despite the final score. Tennessee had a 413–340 yard edge, but allowed the Aggies to throw for over 300 yards.

Missouri St 38, UTEP 24 — The game was tied 24–24 heading into the final stanza, but UTEP did what UTEP does, and Missouri St continues to win. 436–240 yard edge for the Bears, who now have seven (!) wins.

WKU 42, MTSU 26 — Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but MTSU was right there heading into the 4th quarter, only to watch the opponent pull away. 642–541 yard advantage for WKU, who look a lot better on offense with Rodney Tisdale leading the way.

FIU 34, Liberty 27 (OT) — FIU appeared to have it completely sewn up… until they didn’t (see below). 378–375 yard edge in a very evenly played game, with the only notable difference being the (-2) turnover margin for Liberty.

Back by popular demand, It’s the SIMPLE JACK Coach of the Week Award, sponsored by Safe and Effective Analytics Corp.

We had the unthinkable in this game. BOTH coaches came through with performances worthy of SIMPLE JACK honors in the 4th quarter. They’ve got G-G-G-G-G-G-GOOD brains.

Congrats, Liberty HC Jamey Chadwell, who’s apparently lost without former Coastal Carolina star QB Grayson McCall.

Down 27-21 with under three minutes left. 4th and 6 at the FIU 15-yard line. You’re down by six and need a TD to tie/win. False start. 4th and 11. You are STILL down by six points. No way you would kick a FG here, even though it’s 4th and 11. First of all, you might miss the FG. Second, you need a TD to win. Well, the “Analytics” say kick the FG so you can lose by 3! Yup, FG, and it’s 27-24 for FIU.

Congrats, FIU HC Willie Simmons, who made SIMPLE JACK look like Einstein. He must have felt sorry for Jamey Chadwell’s football acumen.

FIU gets a bunch of yards. 4th and 1 at the Liberty 40-yard line with 20 seconds left. They’re up 27-24. Punt the ball and the game is over. But let’s check with the “Analytics”. Oh, it says go for it so you can get stopped, and let Liberty kick a FG to send the game into OT. Sure enough, stopped. One big pass play. Last second 48-yard FG to send it to OT. FIU got the win in extra time, saving Willie Simmons (temporarily) from being the all-time SIMPLE JACK.

Sam Houston 26, Delaware 23 — You can’t stop Sam Houston, you can only contain them! That’s two straight wins, and Delaware is a good team. Note that Delaware had a 433–355 yard advantage, but were (-3) in turnover margin.

Jacksonville St 35, Kennesaw St 26 — Yes, guy. The COCKS stay undefeated in CUSA play. It was a misleading final, as Kennesaw St had a significant 579–451 yard edge, but made numerous bonehead mistakes and were (-4) in turnover margin. IMPORTANT – if you love seeing crazy plays in college football, make sure to check out the final play of the first half. Hint: Jacksonville St scores on the final play from around midfield, and the Hail Mary attempt never came close to reaching the end zone.

Washington St 28, Louisiana Tech 3 — Rocking chair win for Washington St, who need one more victory to become bowl eligible. 303–167 yard edge for the Cougars in a late-night SNOT BUBBLER.

MAC

Central Michigan 38, Buffalo 19 — The MAC is getting even crazier, yo. FIRE UP CHIPS are bowl eligible and now in a 6-way tie for 2nd place in the MAC, along with Buffalo. The Bulls actually had a 398–358 yardage edge, but turned the ball over five (!) times and finished with a -3 margin.

Northern Illinois 45, UMass 3 — Blowout city. NIU led 45–0 after the 3rd quarter and had a 433–262 yard advantage. UMass moves to 0–10.

Toledo 24, Miami Ohio 3 — Back-to-back losses for Miami Ohio, and now both teams are part of the logjam tied for 2nd in the MAC. Toledo had a 312–222 yard edge in a sloppy game where each team turned it over three times. The Redhawks played with backup QB Henry Hesson, which definitely didn’t help.

Western Michigan 17, Ohio 13 — Low-scoring but entertaining game. Western Michigan took the lead for good early in the 4th quarter. They had a 336–287 yard edge and now sit alone atop the MAC standings.

Kent St 42, Akron 35 (OT) — WHOA, NELLIE! This is what midweek MACTION is all about. Kent St led 35–17 (!) and looked like they had the game salted away. Of course, this is the MAC, and Akron rallied to send the game to OT. Kent St won the game in OT and took home the WAGON WHEEL trophy! Misleading final, as Akron booked a 530–374 yard edge and won the first down battle 33–13 (!).

Mountain West

UConn 26, Air Force 16 — Air Force had a 356–347 yard advantage, but could only convert 4/12 on 3rd and 4th down opportunities. UConn bags their 8th win! Air Force will be home for the holidays.

New Mexico 20, Colorado St 17 — The Rams actually played a decent game but fell just short. New Mexico had a slight 348–299 yard advantage, and both teams turned it over four times and recorded four sacks. Sloppy game, yo.

Nevada 55, San Jose St 10 — WOWEE WOW! Best game of the year for the Wolfpack as they slaughter San Jose St as YUUUGE underdogs. Nevada had a 413–270 yard edge and were +5 (!) in turnover margin. They also scored on a pick-six and a 99-yard KR TD.

UNLV 29, Utah St 26 (2OT) — Double overtime, and totals bettors couldn’t get close to sniffing the ‘OVER’. Very evenly played game, with Utah St holding a slight 434–422 advantage in total yards.

San Diego St 17, Boise St 7 — The Aztecs win a SNOT BUBBLER and are now alone atop the Mountain West standings. 294–268 yard edge for San Diego St, but they had just 17 (!) passing yards. Thankfully, they won the rushing battle 277–164.

Fresno St 24, Wyoming 3 — Fresno St books a decisive home win with backup QB Carson Conklin. Excellent game from the Bulldogs’ stop unit, as Fresno St won the yardage duel decisively, 311–184. Wyoming needs to win their last two games to make a bowl game. Fresno St is part of the 5-way (!) tie for 2nd place in the conference.

SEC

Texas A&M 31, South Carolina 30 — WHOA, NELLIE! SEC teams were on a 0–286 run when trailing by 27+ points at halftime. That streak ended in this game. The COCKS were up 30–3 at halftime, but Texas A&M outgained South Cackalacky by nearly 300 yards in the 2nd half to snatch the win. 503–388 total yardage edge for Texas A&M, who were (-3) in turnover margin and forced to dig out of a YUUUGE hole.

Oklahoma 23, Alabama 21 — The Sooners were outgained 406–212 (!!!) but forced the Tide into a lot of mistakes and gutted out an impressive road win to keep their CFP hopes alive. Oklahoma was +3 in the turnover department, and ROLL TIDE was stopped on downs late in the game during the search for a GW FG attempt.

Georgia 35, Texas 10 — Let’s take a trip to BLOWOUT CITY, yo. The game was 14–10 at one point, and then Georgia stepped on the gas and buried Texas and your boy Arch Manning, essentially ending the Longhorns’ CFP dreams. 357–274 yard edge for the Dawgs, who outrushed the Longhorns 128–23.

Ole Miss 34, Florida 24 — The Gators were very scrappy and gave the Rebels all they could handle. 538–326 yard advantage for Ole Miss, who finally put things to bed with a late TD. Florida is 3–7 and won’t be going to a bowl game. Ole Miss appears to be a MORTAL LOCK for a CFP berth!

LSU 23, Arkansas 22 — WOO PIG loses another heartbreaker, and this time they blew a 14–0 lead. LSU scored the winning TD midway thru the final stanza and held a 390–340 yard edge. WOO PIG was (-3) in turnover margin and were held on a goal line stand — and that was the killer.

Missouri 49, Mississippi St 27 — Star RB Ahmad Hardy went bananas for Missouri (25–300!…3 TD) as the Tigers booked a 435–348 total yard margin. Mississippi St held the ball for 37 minutes and won the first down battle 27–17, but their Swiss cheese run defense was a major problem.

Sun Belt

Old Dominion 33, Troy 0 — Fantastic performance from the Monarchs, who held a YUUUGE 503–138 yard edge and never gave Troy any room to breathe.

Marshall 30, Georgia St 18 — The Herd led 21–18 after the 3rd quarter and then pulled away in the final frame. 489–409 yard edge for Marshall, and note that they were +3 in turnover margin. One more win and the Herd are heading to a bowl game.

James Madison 58, Appalachian St 10 — HAAAA. James Madison is just demolishing everybody, and they clinched a spot in the Sun Belt Championship Game on Saturday thanks to Georgia Southern’s win over the Chanticleers. 627–146 (!!) yard advantage for the Dukes, who now have the inside track to the CFP after USF lost to Navy. BOOM!

South Alabama 26, ULM 14 — The Warhawks led 14–CACK after the first quarter and then didn’t score again. 362–154 (!) yard advantage for South Alabama. Sadly, neither team will be going to a bowl game.

Texas St 41, Southern Miss 14 — Yes, guy. Texas St finally played a clean game and blew out a good opponent. 449–391 yard edge for Texas St, who led 27–zip at halftime. Southern Miss played with their backup QB and were (-3) in turnover margin.

Georgia Southern 45, Coastal Carolina 40 — Entertaining game that looked like it might hit 100 total points (35–27 at the half). 653–482 yard edge for the Eagles, who’ve won three of their last four games. The Chants played hard for 60 minutes but couldn’t get a stop on defense. Eagles’ RB OJ Arnold rushed for 267 yards and 2 TD (12.7 YPC!).
