Week 2 – Notre Dame at NC State

Notre Dame at NC State

posted Sept 6

The Game

WHOA, NELLIE.

The competition has been weak (Navy, Tennessee St) but it’s fair to say that the Irish have looked pretty good so far whilst outscoring their overmatched foes to the tune of 98-6. This will be their first true test of the season as they travel to take on NC State who put away a scrappy UConn team in week one (W 24-10). Notre Dame has playoff aspirations. The Wolfpack feel that they can find their way into the ACC Championship Game if they get a few breaks.

Let’s gooooo!

The Details

Notre Dame -7.5 NC State (51)

MEGALOCKS LINE – Notre Dame -8.5

“Vegas” Implied Projected Score: Notre Dame 29.25 NC State 21.75

Notre Dame offense vs NC State defense

Ace QB Sam Hartman has looked just like WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS thru the first two games (33-40, 6-0 TD to INT) whilst RB A Estime is well on his way to a 1,000-yard campaign (29-211, 7.3, 2 TD). Hartman has spread the ball around well (five players with 4+ receptions) and he’s averaging a whopping 10.7 YPA. NC State plays solid D (19.2, 19.7 PPG L2Y) but they lost some key components from LY’s squad and note that UConn rushed for 160 yards in game one. Notre Dame has the OL and rushing attack that’ll move the football and now NC State has to deal with a THROW GAME as well. We expect the Irish to get into the high-20s, maybe a wee bit more if things go well.

NC State offense vs Notre Dame defense

QB Brennan Armstrong is a warrior and he willed the team to victory vs the Huskies. He did just enough thru the air but only averaged 6.0 YPA. He was the leading rusher for the Pack in that contest (96 yards, 2 TD) but we didn’t see much from the RB group or the WR/TE corps. Nobody on the team had more than 40 yards receiving vs UConn. Notre Dame has looked sparkling on defense so far but Armstrong is a crafty veteran and the first living, breathing, QB that they’ve faced this season. We expect NC State to grind out a few successful drives but don’t see them hitting too many big plays.

Trends, Intangibles and More!

NC State HC Dave Doeren is 8-10 ATS as a home dog during his time with the Pack…..Temps look warm for kickoff (mid 80s)….As we approach press time it looks as tho there may be some rain coming in the 2nd half….possibly a t-storm…..FUN FACT….Notre Dame has a six-year, 28-game (!) REGULAR SEASON winning streak vs ACC competition.

Summary

NC State is a good team. Notre Dame is REALLY good. The point spread looks a bit light and we’re not worried about the Irish handling the hostile environment.

Conclusion

Lean – Notre Dame – 7 -118

<You can find anything from -118 to -125; wouldn’t go higher than that; we’re still fine with -7.5 if that’s what you wanna do)
