Hey everyone.
Here’s the Week 5 Boxscore and Wagering review.
FBS vs FBS games only.
Let’s go!
Boxscore review:
American
Air Force 19 Navy 14 — Air Force led 14-3 at the half and held on for dear life. 270-253 yard edge for the Falcons, and the story of the game was third-down conversions. Air Force went 9-for-18, while Navy finished just 1-for-11. Navy backup QB Jackson Gutierrez played most of the game as Braxton Woodson was hobbling early.
UTSA 16 Rice 14 — Rice is a scrappy outfit, and UTSA has to be happy getting out of town with a win. The Owls cut the lead to 16-14 early in the fourth quarter but couldn’t mount another serious challenge. 314-232 yard edge for UTSA.
Louisiana Tech 31 Army 29 — The lead looked comfortable in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs managed to survive a late Army TD and onside kick attempt. 503-424 yard edge for La Tech, and note they rushed for 244 yards and threw for another 259.
Memphis 59 Charlotte 8 — Blowout City as expected. 674-209 yard edge for Memphis, and note that Charlotte finished -4 in turnover margin.
Temple 17 USF 13 — Yes, guy. HOOT HOOT gets the LOOT LOOT for MEGALOCKS junkies as the Owls won the game OUTRIGHT as +6 dogs. Winning bet, and they also helped us cash our underdog parlay (see below). Their most explosive RB, Sam Brown V, was surprisingly in street clothes an hour before kickoff, but it didn’t matter. USF held a 319-274 yard edge, but Temple won the ground battle 182-114.
North Texas 45 Tulsa 44 (OT) — Very entertaining game! UNT led 31-17 heading into the final frame, but Tulsa dug deep and sent it to OT. North Texas scored a TD and XP, then Tulsa decided to go for the win with a two-point conversion rather than kick the extra point. The Golden Hurricane came up an inch or two short. 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: North Texas held a whopping 559-352 yard advantage but finished -3 in turnover margin.
ACC
Miami 41 Clemson 13 — YOUR Miami Hurricanes jumped out early and never looked back. They lost more bodies to the injury bug during this game but just kept on ticking. 419-355 yard edge for the Hurricanes, who allowed a lot of passing yards to a previously feeble Clemson THROW GAME.
And as luck would have it, this week’s SHAWSHANK PRISON AWARD goes to Under 48.5 backers. It must have felt like you got stuck with a shiv in the prison workshop. It was 24-6 after the third quarter. Looking good! How did you ome up with that sharp bet? Now it’s late… 34-13 Miami, and Clemson has the ball in its own territory with less than two minutes left. Down by 21 points. Fourth-and-7. Just punt the ball and the Under is golden! Congrats, Under backers. Uh, oh. Interception! Pick Six Miami! Hurricanes win 41-13. Congrats, Over players. That was a sharp pick. Cash that tickee tickee!
SMU 25 Boston College 16 — It was tougher than expected, but SMU got it done in soggy conditions. 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: Boston College won the yardage battle 322-218. Boston College was -1 in turnover margin. Fun fact: SMU faced a 4th-and-50 in this event.
Syracuse 42 UConn 41 (OT) — Amari Odom finally got the start and looked great for Syracuse, the problem was a defense that blew a 27-7 lead. 509-499 yard edge for the Orange, and each team turned it over twice.
NC State 31 Louisville 28 — NC State led most of the way until LUA-VUH tied it 28-28 early in the fourth quarter. NC State kicked the deciding FG with about five minutes left. 493-485 yard edge for the Wolfpack, who were +2 in turnover margin thanks almost entirely to LB Popo Aguirre, who recovered three (!) fumbles.
Pittsburgh 35 Virginia Tech 33 — Virginia Tech popped out to a quick 14-0 lead, but the Panthers kept coming and eventually overtook the Hokies. Virginia Tech had a makeable FG to win the game as time expired, but missed it in agonizing fashion. Note that Pitt lost starting QB Mason Heintschel for the season due to injury. 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: Virginia Tech won the yardage battle 499-295 but were an impossible -4 in turnover margin.
Florida St 38 Virginia 7 — WOW. Fantastic game from the Seminoles. 464-205 yard edge for Florida St. Sidenote: WHAT in the SAM HILL has happened to Virginia? Florida St recorded 10 sacks, and QB Ashton Daniels set a franchise record with 5 (!) rushing scores.
Notre Dame 35 North Carolina 26 — 475-285 yard edge for the Irish, who got a bit more than they bargained for from the Fighting Belichicks. Rainy conditions for a good chunk of the game.
Wake Forest 57 Stanford 3 — Stanford just loves these trips out East! 519-197 yard edge for Wake Forest, who led 29-3 at the half and kept rolling. The second-worst loss in Stanford history (they lost 72-0 to UCLA in 1954).
UNLV 39 California 31 — UNLV led 24-7 at the half, but Cal got on fire early in the 2nd half to take a 25-24 lead. The Rebels got their mojo back and booked a much-needed win. 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: Cal won the yardage duel 464-350 but couldn’t run ball and had 16 (!) penalties for 147 yards. Cal starting QB JKS left the game due to injury.
Big 12
Texas Tech 29 Colorado 7 — It was a grind, but the Red Raiders gradually put it away in the second half. 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: Colorado had more yards (375-315) but finished -4 in turnover margin.
BYU 17 TCU 10 — BYU wins the SNOT BUBBLER. TCU actually held a 259-216 yard edge, but the Horned Frogs’ season may be going GLUG GLUG GLUG down the tubes. Wet and disgusting conditions significantly limited both offenses. Note that BYU star RB LJ Martin was injured early in the game. BYU finished with just 216 yards, their lowest total since 1986. That’s crazy. Might need to get our HOTTIE interns to fact-check that tidbit.
Houston 27 UCF 17 — UCF led 17-0 and then remembered that Scott Frost was their head coach. Just kidding. Not really. 393-332 yard advantage for Houston.
Arizona 34 Cincinnati 7 — BEHIND THE WOODSHED special. Arizona posted a 522-227 yard edge, rushing for 238 yards and throwing for another 284.
Baylor 55 Arizona St 19 — Rocking chair winner for MEGALOCKS junkies. As it turns out, we didn’t really need the +4. 564-409 yard edge for Baylor, whose only loss came to Auburn in Week 1 by a single point after failing on a two-point conversion.
Iowa St 45 West Virginia 42 — A wild one in Ames! Crazy back-and-forth affair, and West By God Virginia took the lead with five minutes left before Iowa St answered with a game-winning touchdown drive. 577-518 yard edge for Iowa St as the Cyclones move to 3-3. The Mountaineers are 0-2 in Big 12 play and now have to focus on making a bowl game.
Programming notice: As you may know, we go through every game in detail on SportsXRadio with Ken Thomson on Friday nights. This week’s event included some suggestions on player props for All-Universe RBs Aiden Flora (22-212, 3 TD) and Cam Cook (20-142, 2 TD). A blind squirrel can find a nut. We only point this out to remind you that the Friday show is CHOCK FULL of goodies. Check the show out!
Kansas 55 MTSU 0 — The Jayhawks took paddle to azz. 706-136 yard advantage for Kansas, who rushed for an impossibly impossible 480 yards (8.3 YPC).
Big Ten
Ohio St 31 Iowa 14 — Impressive performance from the Buckeyes, who dominated in a tough venue. 484-238 yard edge for Ohio St and they were +2 in turnover margin.
Indiana 47 Rutgers 15 — The defending champs are just rolling along. 593-254 yard advantage for Indiana. A road trip to Nebraska is up next.
USC 27 Washington 22 — The USC offense threw up a dud, but the defense played its best sixty minutes of the season. 360-319 yard edge for the Trojans, who came back from a 21-10 deficit.
Minnesota 20 Michigan 14 — Minnesota SHOCKS THE WORLD and moves to 2-0 in Big Ten play. Michigan is 0-2. Who had that on their 2026 Bingo Card? 262-180 yard edge for the Golden Gophers, who held Michigan to a mere 79 yards on the ground.
Northwestern 34 Penn St 13 — WOWEE WOW. Northwestern completely destroyed Penn St on the ground, rumbling for 413 yards on 55 carries (7.5 YPC). 506-291 yard advantage for the Wildcats, who opened their gorgeous newly renovated stadium in style.
Nebraska 48 Maryland 23 — Maryland has gone from quitting on seasons to quitting during games! A job well done. They led 23-14 and appeared to be well positioned for an upset — and then — well, you know. They didn’t score again the rest of the game, and HC Mike Locksley will probably get a 12-year extension this week. 447-395 yard advantage for CORN, who host Indiana (!) next time up.
Wisconsin 31 Michigan St 3 — How ’bout those Badgers? Total domination coming off the big win over Penn St. 373-235 yard edge for Wisconsin.
Purdue 24 Illinois 17 — Big road win for Purdue, who led from start to finish. Each team finished with 345 yards of offense.
CUSA
Liberty 30 Delaware 14 — The Flames get off to a great start in conference play by taking down fellow CUSA contender Delaware. Liberty led 23-CACK after three quarters and won the yardage duel 439-359. The Flames were also +2 in turnover margin. Note that the Blue Hens were without their stud starting QB and had to use three other dudes.
New Mexico St 34 WKU 13 — Rough loss for the Hilltoppers, who drop to 1-4, but a great start to CUSA play for New Mexico St! 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: WKU won the yardage battle 357-352 but wasn’t helped by 11 penalties and an ugly 0-for-3 mark on fourth downs.
MAC
Western Michigan 20 Buffalo 17 — The Broncos survive — barely. They took a late 20-17 lead, but Buffalo responded and drove right down the field. Fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line. A FG sends it to OT! But Buffalo goes for the win because the media just loves “gutsy” calls. Stopped. Western Michigan wins. 327-305 yard edge for the Broncos.
Bowling Green 24 Miami Ohio 20 — Miami was down to its third-string QB and couldn’t hold a late lead against the pathetic Falcons, who somehow found a way to throw for more than 300 yards. 367-306 yard edge for Bowling Green.
Toledo 39 Ball St 24 — Scrappy effort from Ball St, but they couldn’t keep pace for four quarters. 553-370 yard edge for Toledo, who were +2 in turnover margin.
Ohio 13 Kent St 10 — This was a painful watch, and Ohio emerged victorious after Kent St missed a 32-yard FG that would have sent the game to OT. Kent St actually held a 266-253 yard edge, and both teams turned it over twice.
Eastern Michigan 38 UMass 14 — Don’t look now, but THE Eastern Michigan Eagles are atop the MAC standings with a 2-0 conference record. They became the first team to take down mighty UMass and held a 411-316 yard edge. The Minutemen were -2 in turnover margin.
Central Michigan 41 Akron 17 — Much-needed blowout win for FIRE UP CHIPS. 481-340 yard advantage for Central Michigan, and the Chips were +2 in turnover margin.
Mountain West
New Mexico 61 UTEP 7 — That score is not a typo. The Lobos were up 21-zip at the half and could’ve shut it down right there and still won by 35 points. But they kept pouring it on. 492-270 yard edge for New Mexico, and note that UTEP turned the ball over five times (-4 turnover margin).
San Jose St 20 Hawaii 14 — The Spartans booked a 14-0 halftime lead and held on in the second half for a big conference road win. 🚨🚨 Misleading final alert: Hawaii held a 438-324 yard advantage but committed 12 penalties and finished -2 in turnover margin.
North Dakota St 28 Wyoming 0 — Ruthlessly efficient performance from the Bison. 407-162 yard edge, and the outcome was never really in doubt.
Pac-12
Boise St 37 Utah St 18 — Boise St led 28-10 at the break, but the Aggies kept fighting. 429-345 yard advantage for the Broncos, who have a massive Pac-12 game at Fresno St coming up.
Fresno St 26 Washington St 6 — The Bulldogs absolutely smothered the Coogs all game. 375-182 yard edge for Fresno St.
San Diego St 31 Texas St 29 — Nasty one for MEGALOCKS junkies. We always say, “Nobody ever paid off a bank loan with closing-line value.” We laid -4.5. It closed at -9.5. The Bobcats led 17-3 at the half. What could possibly go wrong? How about a kickoff return TD and a pick six for San Diego St in the second half. 🚨🚨 Misleading Final of the Decade Alert: Texas St had a 565-239 yard edge and lost the game OUTRIGHT.
Oregon St 56 Colorado St 26 — Another big game from the Beavers! 650-366 yard advantage for Oregon St, which led 35-14 at halftime.
SEC
Georgia 38 Vanderbilt 14 — The Bulldogs were a little sluggish early on and led just 21-14 at the break, but they turned it on in the second half. 471-293 yard advantage for the Dawgs. Vanderbilt played with its backup QB.
Alabama 56 Mississippi St 23 — Two early turnovers and it was 14-0 Tide. Then came more Alabama after that. 483-302 yard edge for the Tide, and the Bulldogs turned it over four times (-2 turnover margin). Alabama won the rushing battle 179-18 and now has an epic clash at home with Georgia up next.
Texas A&M 34 Arkansas 7 — WOO PIG scored in the first quarter and that was that. 401-214 yard edge for Texas A&M, who desperately needed a win, even if it was just Arkansas.
Tennessee 24 Auburn 14 — The defenses dominated in a game that was ugly from the start. Tennessee pulled its starting QB. Auburn’s offense was suffocated. 345-323 yard advantage for Auburn, who nearly pulled off some backdoor-cover magic late in the fourth quarter before throwing a red-zone INT.
Kentucky 35 South Carolina 34 (OT) — The Cocks move to 0-3 in SEC play after blowing another big lead, this time a 17-0 advantage at home against the Cats. South Carolina scored a TD and XP in OT. Kentucky answered with a TD and won the game on a two-point conversion. 458-394 yard edge for South Carolina, but they were -2 in turnover margin.
Missouri 45 Florida 17 — “Officer, we’d like to report a murder.” The Tigers SMEEAAAAASHED the Gators in gruesome fashion. They won the yardage battle 560-325 and outgunned Florida on the ground 220-42.
Sun Belt
James Madison 45 Marshall 17 — JMU moves to 5-0 and appears to be getting better every week. It was 38-14 at the half, and the Dukes outgained the Herd 573-444.
Georgia St 42 Old Dominion 10 — The Panthers move to 4-1 and have a big matchup with James Madison after the upcoming bye week. 470-146 yard advantage for Georgia St.
Georgia Southern 31 Coastal Carolina 24 — Coastal Carolina finally figured out how to score in the second half of a football game but couldn’t take down the Eagles. 407-370 yard edge for Georgia Southern, who were +2 in turnover margin. The Chants move to 1-4 and their season is slipping away fast.
Louisiana 23 Arkansas St 20 — The Cajuns pick up a critical West Division victory thanks to a last-second FG. Louisiana held a significant 435-293 edge in total yards.
South Alabama 52 ULM 35 — The Jags led 31-14 at the half and held serve the rest of the way. 570-442 yard advantage for South Alabama, and the Warhawks fall to 0-5 on the season.

UMass OV 2.5 — WINNER. They finally lost a game this week.
Air Force OV 6.5 — The Falcons move to 3-1 after a win over Army.
Sacramento St UN 4.5 — Yep, they look like trash. One win so far and we don’t see many more on the horizon.
Tulane UN 7.5 — The Green Wave are 2-2 and could be 0-4 with a little “luck”. Three tough games in a row are coming up next.
Syracuse OV 4.5 — The Orange led UConn by 20 points but choked it away and had to win the game in OT. There’s a path to five wins, but it looks a bit narrow.
Iowa St UN 4.5 — Iowa St moves to 3-2 after a close win over West Virginia. They look like a borderline bowl team right now but have some tough games on the horizon.
