Georgia Bulldogs 2021 College Football Preview

Georgia Bulldogs 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 8-2

ATS – 4-6

The Bulldogs finished with a solid mark of 8-2 but lost the two games that mattered. They fell to ROLL TIDE in convincing fashion early in the year (L 41-24) and were smoked by the Gators in their yuuuge rivalry game (L 44-28). Florida represented the SEC East in the title game and the Bulldogs had to settle for a Peach Bowl date with Cincinnati. It was a struggle, but they prevailed (W 24-21). Things were a LOT better with QB JT Daniels under center and that gives the Bulldogs a lot of hope  heading into the 2021 season. Let’s go!

Georgia Bulldogs 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

QB JT Daniels was just what the doctor ordered and provided the Bulldogs with a legit THROW GAME (67%, 10-2 TD to INT) once he was installed as the starting QB. Daniels will have essentially everyone of note back at WR and TE other than WR George Pickens who tore his ACL in the spring. His return date is unknown as we approach press time. Kearis Jackson and Jermaine Burton are both legit targets and they bagged a key transfer in massive TE Arik Gilbert from LSU. Everyone is back at RB and they have one of the most talented RB rooms in college football. #1 RB Zamir White has the potential to rip off a 1,000-yard season even with shared duty and note that the RB group is effective on the whole in terms of receiving out of the backfield. The OL loses a pair of starters and note that they allowed 20 sacks LY (#8 SEC sacks allowed per game) and paved the way for just 4.6 YPC (4.9, 5.9, 5.8 previous 3Y).

DEFENSE

The Bulldogs got ripped up by a pair of elite passing attacks but led the nation in run defense for the 2nd consecutive season allowing an impossibly-low 72 YPG. Yup, that happened. There needs to be a pretty significant reload this year as only five starters return and just three of their top-eight tacklers. The good news is that Georgia recruits at an ELITE level and you know Kirby Smart can COACH EM UP. They’ll still be mighty tough vs the run as there is a ton of size up front and NT Jordan Davis is a total BEEEEEST (6-6 340, 1st Team SEC LY). The LB corps is loaded and brings back leading tackler Nakobe Dean and #2 sack man Adam Anderson (6.5). If there’s a weakness on D it might be CB (lost two doods to NFL) but bagging star DB Derion Kendrick from Clemson will definitely help. This is still one of the best defenses in college football.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Yes, guy.

PK Jack Podlesny hit 13/16 FGA in 2020 (3-3 50+) and punter Jake Camarda (46.6, 41.3 net) was one of the three finalists for the Ray Guy Award. The two primary KRs are back and note that Georgia was #5 in the FBS in KR average LY.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – It seems unthinkable but the game of the year (regular season) may be September 4th when the Bulldogs battle Clemson! WHOA NELLIE. They miss Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M out of the SEC West.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – UAB (September 11th)

This game is sandwiched between the aforementioned date with Clemson and the SEC opener (South Carolina). UAB can play ball, yo.

Season Win Total

Per 5Dimes August 1

Over 10.5 -120

Under 10.5 +100

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Over.

Feels like a 10 TONNE STEAMER LOCK if they can beat the Tigers in the opener. If not, the ‘over’ still has life.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

Georgia has had four players taken 1st overall in the NFL draft, the last one being QB Matthew Stafford (2009).

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

Kirby Smart hasn’t won the big one yet but he’s turned this program into a perennial National Championship contender. They’re loaded on both sides of the football and have a fine special teams unit as well. We’ll be surprised if they don’t find a way to make it into the College Football Playoff and they’re clearly one of a small handful of teams with a legit shot to win it all.

Florida Gators 2021 College Football Preview

Florida Gators 2021 College Football Preview

Created August 1, 2021

2020 Recap

Record – 8-4

ATS –5-6-1

The Gators bounced back nicely after an early road loss to Texas A&M (L41-38) and rattled off six consecutive wins which included a spanking of the hated Georgia Bulldogs (W 44-28). Then came one of the craziest finishes you’ll ever see as the LSU Tigers SHOCKED THE WORLD and took down the Gators as yuuuge underdogs. Florida lost a firefight with ROLL TIDE in the SEC title game and then got smoked by the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl. Ending the year on a three-game losing streak is never ideal but it was still an entertaining season for Gators fans.

Florida Gators 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

QB Kyle Trask ripped through opposing defenses with comical efficiency LY (69%, 43-8 TD to INT) and led the #1 passing offense in the FBS (379 YPG). Highly-touted prospect Emory Jones takes over the controls and provides a devastating running dimension that’ll be quite different than what we saw from Trask a season ago. Jones loses a ton of firepower in the THROW GAME with the departure of three players that combined for over 2,300 receiving yards and 31 (!) TDs. TE Kyle Pitts was a BEEEEST and will be impossible to replace. WR Jacob Copeland averaged 19 YPC LY (3 TD) but it’ll be up to some unproven young guys to step up and replace some of that lost production. The 1-2 RB combo of Dameon Pierce and Malik Davis will be looked upon to shoulder more of the workload in 2021, and don’t sleep on Clemson transfer RB Demarkus Bowman. The OL returns three starters but will be working with a new LT and C.

DEFENSE

The Gators had a good pass rush LY (#2 SEC sacks per game, 35 total) but didn’t do much of anything else. They allowed 31 PPG and had trouble stopping the run (#10 SEC) and the pass (#9 pass efficiency D). Only five starters are back but there are plenty of talented pieces to build around including their top-two tacklers LB Ventrell Miller (7.5 TFL) and LB Mohamoud Diabate (7 TFL). DE Zachary Carter is one of the best pass rushers in the SEC (5 sacks, 12 QBH LY) and LB Brenton Cox booked an impossible 18 QBH in 2020. Only one starter returns on the back end but he’s a good one. CB Kaiir Elam was a 1st Team SEC honoree LY (11 PBU, 2 INT). They can get after the QB but we still worry about the pass defense.

SPECIAL TEAMS

RUH ROH.

The losses are heavy in this unit but at least they bagged Miss St PK Jace Christmann to replace the reliable Evan McPherson. Losing star punter Jacob Finn was a kick in the JACOBS. Hopefully they can find some spice at PR and KR given the departure of elusive Kadarius Toney.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – The out-of-conference slate shouldn’t be a problem but they play ROLL TIDE (H) and LSU (A) out of the SEC West. The game with Alabama on September 18th is an early measuring stick, yo.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – at South Carolina (November 6th)

This game comes after a pair of tough games (LSU, Georgia) and could be a letdown spot.

Season Win Total

Per 5Dimes August 1

Over 9 -105

Under 9 -115

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Under.

If they lose to ROLL TIDE and Georgia that doesn’t leave any wiggle room to hit the ‘over’.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

HC Dan Mullen has a 15-3 record at home with the Gators. True road games? 10-2. Not bad.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

This is going to be a much different team than what we witnessed a season ago. The rushing attack will be more of a focus and expect a lot more out of the defense. It’s almost unfair to give Dan Mullen that much raw talent at QB but Jones still has to prove himself over a full season as starter. Definite threat to win the SEC East as it’ll almost certainly come down to the yuuuge game with the Dawgs. They’ll be the underdog, but stranger things have happened.

Mississippi Rebels 2021 College Football Preview

Mississippi Rebels 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 5-5

ATS – 4-6

The Rebels played in a ton of shootouts last year and prevailed about…..well half the time. They scored 35 on the Gators and 48 (!) on ROLL TIDE and won three of their final four regular season games. They also took down Indiana in the Outback Bowl and have to feel good about themselves heading into year two under HC Lane Kiffin.

Mississippi Rebels 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The offense moved like a TREMENDOUS MACHINE throughout the 2020 plandemic season and they finished the year rated #3 in the FBS in total offense (556 YPG) (!) whilst being very well balanced (#26 rush, #7 pass). Star QB Matt Corral is back, and while he threw a few too many picks (29-14 TD to INT) he proved to be a great fit for the offense (71%, 506 rush). Corral won’t be happy to know that his top-two targets including NFL-bound Elijah Moore (1,193, 8 TD) are gone but the cupboard is pretty well-stocked. WR Dontario Drummond had a fine 2020 (16.7, 7 TD) and WR Braylon Sanders averaged an impossible 25 YPC. The 1-2 RB combo of Jerrion Ealy and SNOOP Conner booked a combined 17 TDs on the ground LY. Four starters return up front and they’re in year two of the LANE TRAIN’S system. Expect points, yo.

DEFENSE

Defense was a complete afterthought a season ago as the Rebels allowed a ghastly 38 PPG (dead last SEC) and 519 YPG (yup, dead last). The Rebels add a lot of doods via the transfer portal and the recruiting has been good so there’s hope for improvement despite the loss of leading tackler LB Jacquez Jones. The DL has a lot of 300-pounders and LB/DE Sam Williams is a good one (4 sacks, 8 TFL LY). LB Lakia Henry is a solid vet and bagging Chance Campbell from Maryland will help the group. They’re more experienced on the back end but we’re not convinced they have the MINERALS to do much better defending the pass this year.

SPECIAL TEAMS

It’s hit and miss. KR Jerrion Ealy averaged 28.9 yards on KR and took one to the HIZZY BIZZY JIZZY in 2020 and P Mac Brown was solid. They need to (thankfully) find a new PK.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – The non-conference schedule isn’t a cakewalk but they definitely have the license to get three or four wins. The draw from the SEC East is TASTY (Vandy, Vols) and they only have one road game in November.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Nothing overly-spooky is noted.

Season Win Total

Per BetOnline August 11

Over 7.5 -130

Under 7.5 +110

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

That’s a sharp number, yo. We’d sprinkle a bit on the ‘over’ if we could find a ‘7’. <cranks up Google machine>

MEGAmazing Tidbits

Lane Kiffin has exceptional college football HOTTIE RADAR as he went from HC gigs at USC to Boca Raton to Oxford.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

GET CHO POPCONE.

The offense is absolutely loaded and that alone makes them MUST WATCH TV. The defense should also be a lot better this year and that makes them a serious SURPRISE PACKAGE in the SEC.

Mississippi St Bulldogs 2021 College Football Preview

Mississippi St Bulldogs 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 4-7

ATS – 5-6

The Bulldogs started the year by SHOCKING the WORLD and dismantling defending champ LSU in impressive fashion (W 44-34) but not much else went right the rest of the way. They only won a single other game (Vanderbilt) until the regular season finale when they took down Missouri. It was good to see them show up and take down a scrappy Tulsa squad in the Armed Forces Bowl so momentum is on their side heading into 2021. Let’s go!

Mississippi St Bulldogs 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

QB KJ Costello couldn’t stop throwing interceptions after the opening week win over LSU but the THROW GAME looked a lot better under QB Will Rogers (11-7 TD to INT) who’ll almost certainly be the starting QB for the 2021 opener. Of course you never know with the PIRATE as your head coach and note that they added Southern Miss veteran QB Jack Abraham via the transfer portal. It’s a given that the WR group will deliver in this offense and they bring back #1 WR Jaden Walley (718, 13.8, 2 TD). They’ll need to start stretching the defense as they averaged a mere 5.9/attempt LY (2nd last SEC). The run game is an afterthought but they return their top-two RBs including Jo’Quavious Marks who led the team with an impossible 60 (!) receptions in 2020. Three big boys are back up front and they’ve gotta do a better job in pass pro (2nd last SEC sacks allowed per game LY).

DEFENSE

Twas a very inexperienced stop unit LY but they didn’t perform horribly allowing 28 PPG (#6 SEC) and just 126 YPG on the ground (#4). They also bagged a respectable 25 sacks. Eight of their nine top-tacklers are back for duty but they’ll need to replace leading tackler and star LB Erroll Thompson who’s off to the NFL (Falcons). There are some things to like on defense including a pair of excellent LBs in Aaron Brule (#2 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 10 QBH) and Tyrus Wheat (5 sacks). The DL is held together by 310-pound NT Jaden Crumedy and they add a nice piece in DT Randy Charlton from UCF. The secondary has a nice mix of veterans and young doods like CB Emmanuel Forbes (2nd team SEC). This could be a sneaky-good defense.

SPECIAL TEAMS

This is an above-average group given the return of PK Brandon Ruiz (10/12 FG LY) and KR Lideatrick Griffin (37.3).

Schedule Analysis

Overall – The out-of-conference slate isn’t too bad and the September 11th date with NC State is very intriguing. They get a yuuuuge break with the draw from the SEC East (Vols, Cats) and get their final two games at home.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – at Memphis (September 18th)

Memphis still looks decent and the Bulldogs have an SEC date with LSU on deck.

Season Win Total

Per 5Dimes August 11

Over 6 -120

Under 6 +100

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Over.

They can play with anyone in the SEC other than Georgia and Alabama. Then again, they gave Georgia a game in 2020.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

HC Mike Leach has a very impressive 88-32 career record at home (.765).

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

It’s obviously too much to ask to win the division but this team looks poised to take a step forward and could finish as high as third in the NASTY SEC West. It’ll be a frustrating ride at times for fans but things are looking up in Starkville.

Kentucky Wildcats 2021 College Football Preview

Kentucky Wildcats 2021 College Football Preview

Created August 10, 2021

2020 Recap

Record – 5-6

ATS – 4-6-1

It became clear early on that this wasn’t going to be the Wildcats’ year. They outplayed Auburn in the opener (on the road) and somehow lost and failed to cover the spread (L 29-13). Then they dropped an OT heartbreaker to Ole Miss the following week. They finished the regular season with just four wins but ended on a high note by beating NC State in the Gator Bowl (W 23-21).

Kentucky Wildcats 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The Cats relied upon a bruising ground game to do the heavy lifting once again and rushed for 197 YPG (#3 SEC). #1 RB Chris Rodriguez was in full-time BEEEEST MODE (785, 6.6, 11 TD) and former starting QB Touchdown Terry Wilson annoyed defenses with his mobility (424, 5 TD). Rodriguez is back. Wilson is gone. Who will the new starting QB be in 2021? It appears to be a battle between last year’s backup Joey Gatewood and Penn St transfer Will Levis, but don’t sleep on Beau Allen. In any event, we don’t have a ton of confidence in the THROW GAME but believe they’ll still do damage on the ground. They scooped WR Wandale Robinson from CORN and note that he had 91 receptions and 580 rushing yards in 2Y with Nebraska. The big boys up front lose a pair of stars but still boast good size overall, and tackle Darian Kinnard has legit NFL talent. It still feels like an average offense but they may surprise a bit through the air depending on how the QB battle shakes out.

DEFENSE

The stop unit took a step back LY but recall that it was an SEC-only regular season docket. They ended the 2020 plandemic season ranked #6 in the conference in run D but still managed to be pretty good vs the pass (#3 SEC pass efficiency D, #1 SEC INTs). Just five starters return on this side of the football and they’ll need to find a replacement for #1 tackler and leader LB Jamin Davis, as well as leading sack man LB Jamar Watson. DE Josh Paschal is a good piece to build around up front and they have a number of 300+ pounders. LB DeAndre Square is legit and note that Ole Miss transfer Jacquez Jones led his team in tackles LY (75). As noted above, the secondary did a good job LY but they need to replace a pair (!) of NFL DCs. Safety Yusef Corker is one of the best at his position in the SEC. The Cats need to find a way to get more PENETRATION as they were dead last in the conference in sacks/game LY.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Losing ace punter Max Duffy is a killer but they bring back PK Matt Ruffolo who did a good job on FGA in 2020 (12/14). Their primary KR and PR both return for duty.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – It looks pretty tasty. They’ll win at least three non-conference games and they miss ROLL TIDE and Texas A&M from the SEC West. SEC play starts out with a pair of winnable games (Missouri, Cocks).

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Nothing heinous noted.

Season Win Total

per 5Dimes August 10

Over 7 -120

Under 7 +100

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

We’re not in love with the overall talent but the schedule is very favorable. That looks like a perfect number.

MEGAmazing Tidbit

Kentucky’s only outright SEC title came back in 1950 when they were led by PAUL BEAR BRYANT (11-1, 5-1).

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

There was a long time between BOWL DRINKS but Mark Stoops had led these guys to the postseason in five consecutive years. This team looks to be a clear notch (or two) behind Florida and Georgia but appear to be a virtual 888 STAR COMMUNIST GULAG LOCK to make it six straight.

Arkansas Razorbacks 2021 College Football Preview

Arkansas Razorbacks 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 3-7

ATS – 7-3

The Hogs entered the season on a nine-game losing streak but that didn’t stop them from getting off to a surprising start. They won three of their first six games (Miss St, Ole Miss, Tennessee) but fell apart near the end of the year dropping their final four contests (allowed 50+ three times). It should be noted that they lost three TIGHT ONES by a combined seven (!) points and were a lot more competitive than many experts thought. On to 2021!

Arkansas Razorbacks 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

WOO PIG SOOIE rode the arm of former QB Feleipe Franks on offense (68.5%, 17-4 TD to INT) and were a lot more SPICY than we expected. Backup QB KJ Jefferson also flashed some SKILLZZZ and will be the starter in 2021. We like his upside and had a good game vs Missouri near the end of 2020 (274, 3 TD; 32 rush, TD). Seven of the top-eight targets in the THROW GAME return this season but they’ll miss WR Mike Woods who averaged close to 20 YPC (5 TD). Treylon Burks leads an underrated group (51-820, 16.1, 7 TD) and TE Hudson Henry could have a big year. #1 RB Trelon Smith returns (710, 5 TD) and he rushed for 241Y in the final 2G in 2020 vs Missouri and ROLL TIDE. Five LARGE starters are back up front but they’ll need to clean up pass pro, yo. They were last in the SEC in sacks allowed per game LY (34 in 10G). Sam Pittman can COACH EM UP.

DEFENSE

The Hogs have been awful on defense for five straight seasons and they finished the 2020 campaign #12 in the SEC in run defense (192 YPG). It’s worth mentioning that they were a SNEAKY SECOND PLACE in the conference in pass efficiency D thanks in part to a solid TD to INT ratio of 18-13. The bad news? They were last in the SEC in sacks per game. There’s reason for optimism given the return of ten starters and their top-six tacklers. The LB duo of Grant Morgan (3rd Team AA) (!) and BUMPER POOL is one of the best in the conference and they have some big bodies up front. They just need to find a way to get to the QB. Safety Jalen Catalon is excellent and leads a group that helped the Hogs finish 2nd in the SEC in INT LY.

SPECIAL TEAMS

RUH RUH.

There’s some work to do. They need to find a new PK and they were brutal across the board in 2020 (Net punting #100, #98 PR, #108 KR).

Schedule Analysis

Overall – Yup, it’s nasty. They play in the SEC West. They draw Georgia. They face Texas.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Georgia Southern (September 18th)

The shaky run defense gets an early PUNCH IN THE MOUTH from the kooky Eagles run game. SEC play is on deck (Texas A&M).

Season Win Total

Per 5Dimes August 11

Over 5.5 -105

Under 5.5 -115

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Under.

They’ll be feisty but the schedule doesn’t do them any favors.

MEGAmazing Tidbit

It’s almost time, yo.

Woooooooooo, Pig! Sooie!
Woooooooooo, Pig! Sooie!
Woooooooooo, Pig! Sooie!
Razorbacks!

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

We like the toughness and attitude that’s already been installed by HC Sam Pittman. QB KJ Jefferson has a shot to be REALLY good and the defense will be better this season. How many wins are there on this schedule tho? We’ll call for 4-5 wins but think they’ll pull a major upset at some point along the way. We’d be shocked if they didn’t book another winning year vs Vegas.

Auburn Tigers 2021 College Football Preview

Auburn Tigers 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 6-5

ATS – 5-6

The Tigers struggled on both sides of the football but still managed to cobble together six wins in an SEC-only plandemic schedule. They started to get hot mid-season with a three-game winning streak (Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee) but dropped games to ROLL TIDE and Texas A&M right after that. The season ended on a sour note with a loss to Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl (L 35-19).

Auburn Tigers 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The offense had a hard time getting much going LY and scored fewer than 30 PPG (25.1, #9 SEC) for the first time since 2015. QB Bo Nix was decent, but certainly not as good as he needed to be (12-7 TD to INT, 60%, 7 rush TD). Nix could have problems improving the THROW GAME given that Auburn loses their top-THREE (!) WRs who tallied 145 out of Auburn’s 216 receptions (!) in 2020. That’s a lot of production to replace, yo. No returning wideout recorded double-digit receptions LY so they’ll need a few young guys to emerge quickly and produce. The good news is the return of star RB Tank Bigsby who’s a superstar in the making (834, 6.0, 5 TD, four 100Y games LY). The OL returns five starters and almost 90 career starts so that’s a bonus.

DEFENSE

The Tigers were average across the board LY and were the #8 run defense in the SEC and the #7 pass defense in terms of efficiency. They booked 26 sacks and rated #6 in the conference in sacks per game. This year’s DL is LOADED with size across the board and note the addition of big boy NG Tony Fair from UAB (6’3 335). Hopefully they can find some pass rushers at DE. The LB group features last year’s top-two tacklers in Zakoby McClain (5.5 TFL) and Owen Pappoe (6 TFL) and the secondary features a pair of rock solid CBs in Roger McCreary and West Virginia transfer Dreshun Miller. FS Smoke Monday is one of the better safeties in the SEC. This defense looks really good on paper <grabs popcorn>.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The kicking game is in great shape with the return of star PK Anders Carlson (20/22 FG LY, 7-8 40+) and P Oscar Chapman. Both of their KRs are back as well.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – They should roll to three wins in non-conference play and might bag a fourth if they can find a way to beat Penn St in Happy Valley on September 18th. That’ll be a good one! They get ROLL TIDE at home but must go on the road to face LSU and Texas A&M.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – Georgia St (September 25th)

This is a tough-looking sandwich spot (at Penn St, at LSU) so we’ll likely avoid laying a ton of points with the favorite in this one.

Season Win Total

per BetOnline August 10

Over 7 -120

Under 7 +100

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

We’d take a small taste over ‘6.5’ if you can find one out there.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

New HC Bryan Harsin has a phenomenal career mark of 76-24. He won a Sun Belt title with Arkansas St and three Mountain West championships with Boise St.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

New HC Bryan Harsin couldn’t have picked a much tougher assignment. Competing in the SEC West is absolutely brutal and we think it’ll take a year for this team to get their sea legs. The defense looks stout and they’ll have to rely on grinding it out on offense. At least that’s the way it appears. We’ll call for 6-7 wins and give them a shot at pulling a big upset along the way.

LSU Tigers 2021 College Football Preview

LSU Tigers 2021 College Football Preview

Created August 9, 2021

2020 Recap

Record – 5-5

ATS – 6-4

The Tigers got off to a slow start in defense of their National Championship (15-0) and were upset by Mississippi St and Missouri in their first three games. They started to get things straightened out and won their final two games over Florida (!) and Ole Miss whilst scoring a combined 90 points. We all knew they were gonna struggle after losing so much NFL talent. 5-5 wasn’t a complete disgrace.

LSU Tigers 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The Tigers moved on from superstar Joe Burrow and still ranked #15 in the FBS in passing offense (312 YPG). QBs Myles Brennan and Max Johnson were particularly effective and booked an impressive combined 19-4 TD to INT mark. Brennan is out for an undetermined period of time with a left arm injury so it’ll be up to Johnson to lead the way to start the season. Two of the top-three WRs are back in the mix including emerging star Kayshon Boutte (45-735, 16.3, 5 TD; 308Y vs Ole Miss!) but they lose a pair of key contributors in star TE Arik Gilbert and WR Terrace Marshall (10 TD LY). The 1-2 RB combo of Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery combined for over 800Y and 6 TDs in just 10G LY. Five LARGE returning starters are back up front. The line was a mess LY and they allowed 25 sacks (#10 SEC sacks allowed per game) whilst struggling in run blocking (#109 FBS rush offense). We expect a moderate increase in production in 2021.

DEFENSE

LSU was extremely inexperienced on defense LY and it really showed. This is not a typo. They finished #124 in the FBS in total defense (492 YPG) and allowed 35 PPG (2nd last SEC). That’s some serious Bo Pelini magic, yo. New DC Daronte Jones has nine starters back and a lot of raw talent to work with this year, particularly at DL where they bring back four starters along with an embarrassing number of young guys ready to dominate. DE Ali Gaye led the DL in tackles LY (9.5 TFL) and DE Andre Anthony led the team in sacks (5.5). #1 tackler LB Damone Clark is back at LB and they add Mike Jones via the transfer portal (Clemson). It’s unclear what kind of depth they have at LB at this point. The secondary boasts what could be the most talented CB duo in college football in Derek Stingley and Eli Ricks. Expect much better performance from the stop unit.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Yes, guy.

The group is loaded with the return of ace PK Cade York (18/21 FG LY, 6-7 50+), PR Derek Stingley (16.2) and KR Trey Palmer (34.4, TD). That’s quality, buh buh.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – The non-conference slate contains three FREE SQUARES but they do open on the road at BURGEONING JUGGERNAUT UCLA. Their final three games are at home and the season finale LOOMS LARGE (Texas A&M). They must face ROLL TIDE on the road.

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – ULM (November 20th)

They’ll be laying a BOATLOAD of points and this game comes after a match-up with Arkansas and before the yuuuge game with the Aggies. Hard to lay the BIG WOOD in this spot.

Season Win Total

Per 5Dimes August 10

Over 8 -125

Under 8 +105

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

Tough to call at that number. They’ll be a lot better this year but eight wins feels about right. Gun to the head play would be the ‘over’.

MEGAmazing Tidbit

Last year marked the first time this CENTURY that the Tigers failed to book a winning record. The last time came back in 1999 when coached by Gerry DiNardo. Guess who took over the next year? Nick Freaking Saban.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

This is one of the more interesting teams in all of college football heading into the 2021 season. They have tons of talent on both sides of the football, but at the same time, play in the killer SEC West division. They look to be a slight notch below Texas A&M and a big notch behind ROLL TIDE, but they’re more than capable of beating anyone in college football on any given day.

Missouri Tigers 2021 College Football Preview

Missouri Tigers 2021 College Football Preview

2020 Recap

Record – 5-5

ATS – 5-5

Things didn’t look too good after the first two games. Ya, you knew they would lose to ROLL TIDE, but losing to the Vols had to make fans throw up in their own mouths. Missouri proceeded to figure things out and win five of their next six games. The season ended with a bit of a THUD as they dropped their last two decisions and had the Music City Bowl canceled due to the scamdemic. Safety first.

Missouri Tigers 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

It was a strange season for QB Connor Bazelak. We’re big fans, and he completed 67% of his passes, but he managed to throw a mere 7 (!) TD passes in 324 attempts. We’ll need a fact check from someone that isn’t a globalist murdering scumbag, but it seems hard to believe that anyone has thrown fewer than 7 TD passes with that many attempts. We don’t have high hopes for the WR group but could be proven wrong. Keke Chism was the #1 man LY and didn’t exactly dazzle (longest reception 29 yds). There’s a yuuuuuge hole at RB with the departure of their excellent RB Larry Rountree and they’ll rely on dual-threat #2 RB Tyler Badie to do more damage (#2 rush, 28 receptions LY). Three starters return up front and they did a decent job in 2020. This still looks like an average offense on paper.

DEFENSE

The defense took a big step back LY and allowed almost 100 yards more per game whilst yielding 32.3 PPG (19.4 in 2019). Ya, it was an SEC-only docket, but that still sets off a few alarm bells. They also struggled getting the QB on the ground and booked just 19 sacks (#9 SEC sacks/game). Only two of their top-five tacklers return for battle but note that our EXTRA DEEP SEC INSIDERS tell us that the DL will be pretty good. They bring back #1 sack man Trajan Jeffcoat (6 sacks LY, 1st Team SEC) and DT Kobie Whiteside who’s a BEEEEST on the inside. We’re not crazy about the LB group but note that they bagged a potentially yuuuuuuge transfer from Rice in Blaze Alldredge who dominated with the Owls. The secondary needs to prove itself (#92 FBS pass efficiency D LY) and could use some help from the pass rush.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The kicking game will be one of the best in the SEC with the return of PK Harrison Mevis (17/20 FG LY, 3-4 50+) and P Grant McKinniss (so now we’ve gone from intentionally screwing up first names in order to be unique to making last names a complete joke) who had a fine 41 yard net in 2020. The KR and PR doods were useless LY.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – They have a legit shot to reel off four wins in non-conference play as their toughest game (on paper) is a road visit to Boston College. The draw from the West isn’t horrible (Texas AM – H, Hogs – A).

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – North Texas (October 9th)

It’s an SEC sandwich spot (Vols, Aggies) and the Mean Green can SCORE the FOOTBALL just enough to book a sweet BACK DOOR COVER.

Season Win Total

per 5Dimes August 9

Over 7 -110

Under 7 -110

MEGALOCKS says:

Lean: Under.

Feels like a tall order to book eight wins.

MEGAmazing Tidbits

Missouri hasn’t retired a jersey for a single player that’s played in the 21st century.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

The #3 spot is there for the taking in the SEC East but nobody seems to want to grab it. Missouri should be a lot more competitive in the division (in theory) but this doesn’t feel like a very dangerous team. We like the QB situation but worry about the weapons at RB and WR. The defense appears to be average on paper. We’ll call for six wins and a bowl bid.

South Carolina Gamecocks 2021 College Football Preview

South Carolina Gamecocks 2021 College Football Preview

Created August 9, 2021

2020 Recap

Record – 2-8

ATS – 3-7

Things didn’t start too poorly. They won two of their first four games and one of the losses was a CLOSE SHAVE vs Tennessee. The season got flushed down the CRAPPER after that as they lost the final six games in a row by a combined score of 262-113. Let’s check in with the program and see what new HC Shane Beamer has to work with in 2021.

South Carolina Gamecocks 2021 Outlook

OFFENSE

The offense couldn’t get much going on a consistent basis LY as they averaged just 23.5 PPG and 355 YPG. The QB play was particularly mediocre as they booked a smelly 8-9 TD to INT ratio as a team. Last season’s backup Luke Doty is the likely starter (71 attempts LY) and it’ll be interesting to see if he can give the team some upside in the THROW GAME. The COCKS offense will be built around their star RB Kevin Harris who had a phenomenal 2020 campaign (1,138, 6.2, 15 TD; 21 receptions) and TE Nick Muse provides Doty with a reliable target (30-425, 14.2, TD). The WR room is a mystery with the departure of #1 Shi Smith but it was nice to get a legit wideout from Georgia Tech via the transfer portal (Ahmarean Brown). The OL has excellent size and returns four starters to the mix. They’ll need to do a better job stopping UNWANTED PENETRATION (last SEC TFL allowed per game LY).

DEFENSE

The COCKS allowed 38+ in six games LY and ended up ranked #12 in the SEC in scoring defense (36.0). They couldn’t get after the QB and were dead last in the conference in sacks/game. They only return six starters in 2020, lose their top-two tacklers, and need to replace #2 sack man DT Keir Thomas. The good news is that the DL looks really good on paper with the return of star DE Kingsley Enagbare (6 sacks LY) and the addition of sack MACHINE Jordan Strachan who comes over from Georgia St after leading the FBS (!) in sacks (10.5). They need to reload at LB and have to get a lot better at defending the pass as they were an impossible #118 in the FBS in pass efficiency D in 2020 (67%, 18-8 TD to INT, 8.8 per attempt).

SPECIAL TEAMS

They made a sneaky good hire by adding ace special teams coach Pete Lembo. PK Parker White needs to be better (11/19 FG LY) and they need to improve in the return game.

Schedule Analysis

Overall – They should be able to cobble together a few wins in non-conference play (E Illinois, E Carolina) but they get Texas A&M and Auburn from the SEC West. They only have one game ON THE HIGHWAY in November (Missouri).

Potential ATS Trouble Spot – at East Carolina (September 11th)

The big game with Georgia is on deck and the Pirates will surely play like their hair is on fire. Not a prime spot to play the road chalk.

Season Win Total

per 5Dimes August 9

Over 3.5 -165

Under 3.5 +145

MEGALOCKS says:

No leanage.

That number looks about right. We have them pegged to win three or four games.

MEGAmazing Tidbit

South Carolina has just one conference title in program history. That came back in 1969 when they won the ACC (!) under HC Paul Dietzel. They finished that season 6-0 in conference play but went the entire season without scoring more than 27 points in a game. Trivia nugget, yo.

MEGALOCKS Outlook:

There’s no doubt this is a rebuilding season and the only question is how much they will struggle. QUESTIONS ABOUND across the roster (defense, QB, young coaching staff) and the SEC makes you earn every win. We’ll call for 3-4 wins and better things in 2022.
